Alright everyone. After much number crunching, I've decided to go with the Nexgen edgespot chips. They can be had for a really good price of $5.50 per 50 chips or $154.00 for 1400 chips (link HERE).
i own 1500 of these bad boys and have them broken out for cash and tourney checks. they're super durable and stack pretty well. you'll love em for the quality you get at that price. gg sir!

i'm waiting til the cold winter months before i tackle labeling all of them though. thankfully my buddy is a graphic designer and is going to help in the process. enjoy!

Mmmmm.... I know you're not going this route, and I think it's probably the best idea not to, but I sure like the idea for a tourney that's not the WSOP. I'm not sure people would get as confused as feared on here. We know how to handle 5s and 25s, after all.

Everybody already covered it, but fine.

I was going to suggest ordering a few samples of each, because nexgen color coordinating isn't always the prettiest. But I may be in the minority who feel that your players should find visually pleasant the stuff they're staring at for six hours.

Good breakdown. You absolutely don't need more than 8x for the small chips. You probably only need 2x for the 500 chip, too. That's how the WSOP does it.

Your players WILL start to freak out around ante time. They'll scramble to make change with each other. They won't know what to do. For some reason most people have a very difficult time understanding the point that if six people have quarters with which to ante, two people can ante with 100s and get change from the other antes. With the antes of 50, half the table doesn't need change ahead of time. At the 75 level, only three players need have the right change on hand, or two if it's 8-handed.

I find it amusing how otherwise intelligent people have difficulty with this. (And DON'T make change from the table or start pulling them in until you've verified that EVERYBODY has anted.)

Eh, you don't need 'em. That's a LOT of labor. They look good naked.

Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the responses P. With a majority of my supplies on their way, now I'm just going over my entire format for the season. Currently, for my 'Players Championship' I am leaning towards having the top nine players in points qualify to play in the year end tournament. You can find the link here: http://www.northmetropoker.com/p/pla...mpionship.html

I've read on this site several different ways others have used a championship type tournament where you take the top 10 finishes from players and you use those tournaments for their point totals. I have also seen freerolls used to get players into the championship as well.

The thing that I am wondering is if there is a better way than what I have already planned on using.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

I am also curious if you guys recommend going with American Gaming Supply for the source of getting my speed cloth for the tables. Haven't really decided on the exact type I am getting but was kind of eyeing something like this:

Thoughts or better suggestions?

Go with yourautotrim. They supply the legitimate stuff. AGS sometimes will sell a knockoff that's not the same material at all.

I generally just shop around and look for the best deals, but if Slidey is recommending YAT, then they just got a permanant new customer.

I'm with you on shopping for deals, unfortunately it's impossible to tell with "bargain" places whether you will be getting the same material. I made this mistake once and the knockoff stuff looks TERRIBLE. I'd rather just pay a little more to a place where I know I'll get the right cloth/vinyl/what have you... Plus just sign up as a customer for them, they email out discount codes all the time.

I also ordered all of my poker table materials today from yourautotrim thanks to the overwhelming response in this thread so thanks to all who recommended them.

Pics will definitely be forth coming on Event #1 and I will also be posting pics here and there leading up to our first event to update on the progress of everything that we finish.

So far, I have all the chips (and chip racks), several sheets of 4' x 8' plywood at Lowe's sitting in my basement, and all of the supplies (speed cloth, foam padding, vinyl for the rails, etc.) on it's way via UPS (should have all supplies delivered by Friday afternoon acording to UPS.com). I also have been emailing back and forth Slam Dunk Labels the past few days sending samples of my labels to him/her so I can get the labels by next week.

All in all, everything is coming together super nice! Can't wait to start the tables this weekend!

10 is actually pretty good, but that's predicated on you liking the "zero" flavoring (the Ace-K mix).

I am building four normal racetrack tables at first and eventually I will be building the final table with a raised railing and a custom logo on the felt.

For the record, DP10 is more like a -100. Normal DP is where it's at.

Sounds like my kind of weekend. When you say "racetrack" do you mean "oval", or are you actually putting a few inches of bare wood between the felt and rail?

I've personally never played on a wood-racetrack table, but most people who have tried them say they prefer the simpler all-felt style. Have you already thought that through and committed to one design?

Wood racetracks do look cool and it's really just down to preference.

By racetrack, yes I meant wood between the playing surface and the rail.

To be perfectly honest, I've switched my mind several times with going with an all felt table or a racetrack. Half of my players like the racetrack while an even number prefer a normal felt table.

Building a normal felt table will be much easier and I will spend less money and time if I go with a normal one.

To answer your question, no I haven't committed to one design and I guess I will have to come up with a decision one way or the other on Saturday when I begin cutting the sheets of plywood. lol

Starting with racetrack tables for your first time out is pretty ambitious, let alone 4 tables. I'd suggest going with full felt, but if you are up for the challenge, press on good man!

The way my brain works, this is a perfect opportunity to experiment. Build 1-3 with racetrack, and the rest without, and really find out what you & your friends prefer before that final-table build.

Or come up with 5 or 6 designs, and try one of each.

Seriously, I have played on a racetrack table and I was not a fan. Picking up your cards and chips is a pain. Tell everyone to grow their fingernails long.

Racetracks look nice, and you can stack chips well on them, but they are not very functional otherwise. If you don't overpad the felt, you can stack chips on felt perfectly well.
