lol.... this is a funny one, had to comment:

I think I'd probably say something along the lines of "**** something stinks" during the game and hope other players chimed in. Hopefully they'd get the message. If they didn't, and it really was bad, I'd probably take them aside and tell the guy some players were commenting on his odor and he should consider correcting the situation.

second part maybe, DEFINITELY not the first part, unless all are close friends.

if you don't know the guys, the second part might have to wait. If it's really bad, then as host I might have to sack up and speak to them privately.

I am not obese but this is a pretty naive statement. People don't smell because they are obese. They smell because they don't shower or clean themselves.

i see your point, and you are right. however, in my experience, it seems that people that are obese tend to smell more so than non-obese ones.

i agree that it is due to hygeine, but this guy happens to be obese...

I wasn't calling you naive just the statement. If he is obese I can see how you might make that assumption.

About a year or two ago, there was a player at the Borgata who was told by management that he needed to leave the table due to his bad odor. Anybody know what ever came of that? Lawsuit maybe?

It always pays to have people in your game who speak honestly and do not have much of a social filter.

A guy smelled in our game, so another guy went to his car, grabbed his gym bag and came back in. Threw the deodorant at the smelly one and said "dude, you stink, get it fixed". We all laughed. Dude is a bit of a degen so he didn't care either. He keeps coming back.

Moral of the story is "know your audience". In our game the guy who said it knew he could get away with it without causing controversy among anyone.

Why does this being a poker game make the simplest of social issues a problem...

If you have someone in your company who stinks, politely take them to the side and let them know they stink.

<grumble>You can probably do this in 140 characters or fewer if you're so socially inept that you can't do it the normal way.</grumble>

Going to the host and letting him know of your concerns is always the best move in this situation. The suggestion to 'clean yourself up' would have a little less edge if coming from the host.

Actually, re-reading the OP it sounds like you are the host: is it a reoccurring problem, or just a one-time thing? I'd probably do something passive-aggressive like sitting them next to each-other...

I actually played in a home game where one guy kept farting. He was a good friend of the host, so the host just pulled up an air purifier machine and placed it next to this guy's ***. Voila! Smellfree farts!

the funny part is, as one of the other players took his seat, he said very loudly "Man, someone is RIPE!!!", to which i quickly shooshed him...lol

Cut pieces of soap into chip size slices, and bet with them whenever he is in the pot. Then fold.

I'm not a skinny guy, and I don't stink, nor do most of the overweight/obese people I know. People stink because of poor hygiene, or (in extremely rare cases) a medical condition. You don't stink because you're fat.

This - it may feel a little awkward, but it's not that hard, and the offender will probably appreciate it. I don't understand why I can walk around all day with a booger hanging out of my nose while people see it and don't say anything. Just tell me!

There are a couple guys in my weekly game who would see this as a challenge. The night before our game, they would load up on broccoli, beans, cabbage, and other noxious foods just to try to defeat the purifier.

As the host, it's your responsibility to mention it to them (away from the table obviously) before another player does. If someone else does mention it, there's a chance they do so at the table in front of others - which is just going to cause embarrassment and will result in your game losing a player or two.

Best of luck, make sure to update the thread with how you handled it.

Who cares if someone gets a bit embarrassed? So they stink a bit. Its a bunch of dudes typically and telling someone they stink is kinda funny. People should be able to laugh it off and get it cared for. Not like we are all emotional basket cases who are on the verge of epic collapse mentally.

There's a back-ended way to get them to eat better! Mom approves of the sneakiness.
