Hi,

I am organising a private 3 table sit and go at a casino.

There will be 27 players all paying £25 towards the prize pool.

What's the best way to split this up?

I noticed stars and FT pay out the first 5 which is fine but they don't show the percentages of the prize pool each place gets and I'm dreadul with math.

Cheers in advance

Here's what I do for smallish tournaments:

2-5 players: 100%
6-8 players: 70%/30%
9-15 players: 55%/30%/15%
16-24 players: 42.5%/27.5%/17.5%/12.5%
25-32 players: 37.5%/25%/17.5%/12.5%/7.5%

After some slight rounding, your payout would be:

1st: $250
2nd: $170
3rd: $120
4th: $85
5th: $50

Which looks pretty good. You could tweak it how you see fit if you think one spot deserves more or less, but that's a good starting point.

I generally pay 1-2 players per table for smaller MTT type events, and the top-10% for large MTT type events. 5 is fine for a 27 person tournament.

The proposed numbers look fine to me to, although there's nothing that says you need to round to "pretty" numbers, and I like giving back a LITTLE more than the buyin for any cash. It's depressing to get your money back. Start at £50.

This is true. If a player cashes, he usually likes to see a little something so it didn't seem like a waste of time. This has nothing to do with math or logic, it's purely perception.

Bump the bottom two up some. 5th definitely has to make some money, if possible

Stars uses 37, 27, 18, 10, 8
Just calculated it
So at 25 per person the pool is 675
Would be
249.75
182.25
121.5
67.5
54

Rounded could be
250
180
120
70
55

or whatever

If your want the tourney to run faster you can frontload the prize further. There's no magic number and since you're running the tourney you can do as you like.

If you don't want only the large blinds to force all of the action in your game, you can front load the prize structure closer to winner takes it. Perhaps only top 3 get paid and avoid some of the boring stages with short stacks trying to stick around to get their $25 back. This style would make for a more interesting game IMO, but, it's not everyone's cup of tea.

Whilst I really like this idea personally, this is my first attempt at orgainising something like this so I have left the structure completely in the hands of the cardroom manager who is going to use Antes later on aswell.

If this is a success then I will be making it a regularish event so will be looking to use ideas like this once I have identified the areas of the tourney that need improving.

Cheers
