I should've mentioned that we're going out of town for the weekend in about 2 hours, so if I don't have reception or internet--as I think I might not, cuz it's apparently out in the middle of the woods somewhere--it's not that I tucked tail and gave up or that I don't care. We'll be back in town on Sunday evening, so I'll respond to any flames--errr...posts then.

Maybe you ought to develop this idea into a card-based strategy game. I can't see anyone buying this, opening it up for their poker crowd, and having to explain all of this to them before they play poker.

Let the flaming begin! Lol I appreciate the feedback, guys. Really, I do. Particularly the constructive feedback, but any feedback is better than none.
I hate saying this because you seem really excited about it but I honestly can't imagine anyone I know purchasing these cards or playing with them. I would say 99% of people purchasing a poker set are going for two regular decks with white, blue, green etc... chips.

The first word that comes to mind looking at these is Childish. Not exactly what any of my poker playing friends would be looking for in a chip set.

If by childish posters mean as if drawn by a child, I totally disagree. If you mean "for children," I agree. Granted there are lots of cartoons meant for adults. But without all of the backstory, most people would see these on a poker table and think wtf?

Unfortunately with the backstory most people would still say wtf.

Internet!!! Found a place up here with wifi and I feel like I'm finally coming up for air!

So is anyone itt so confident in their opinion that it sucks and won't get funded that they're willing to make a prop bet, I wonder? My "Hard Candy Hold'em Mafia Themed Poker Set" KickStarter Will Be Up Next Week!

I am confident in MY opinion that it kinda sucks , but there may be plenty of folks who think otherwise. Maybe somebody will take a shot with it , who knows? It might work out.
All you get from me is a free opinion on a free forum , no money!

Was thinking more along the lines of...I don't know...public humiliation?

By the way, I know you guys hate this concept, but I guarantee you--like, with 100% certainty--that MOST of you...will dig the next one, ya cynical bastards. Lol If all goes well, this one will be sufficiently overfunded so that I can pay for a proper design patent on the prototype for the next KickStarter. I have a working prototype and it really is awesome. I can't wait to show you and the world THAT one.

Thanks, Eneely.

Tuma, you will. Hopefully sooner, rather than later. I can't express how excited I am about the next project. The next couple of projects, actually. All poker related. If all goes well with the second project that I can't mention, I won't even need to do the third one to make the third poker and never come to fruition. I really can't wait to show you guys, but I gotta hold my...excitement.

For the sake of completeness, here's what I've been working on today. These are the mockups for the chip stacks and the cases.

The chips' "edge spots" were designed so a stack of the same color would look like a big, fat stick of striped candy when aligned properly, in keeping with the hard candy theme.

The 500-chip set, entitled The High Roller Set:

The 300-chip set, entitled The Baller Status Set:

And last, but certainly not least, the 100-chip set. I figure this one will probably be one of the more popular purchases, as it will be the most affordable set of all. It seemed only right that I name this one just for you guys, the participators in this thread, for where would I be without your undying devotion and support?

I give you...The Brown Trout Set:

You're welcome.

Anyone's opinion of this whole thing doing a 180 yet?! No? Ok. Well, I love you anyway.

It's a beautiful set of chips (and a clever as the dickens set of cards to go with it).

But we break in two brand new decks of big image bicycle cards every other time we play, and we already have a nice set of 500 clay chips for which we paid about $50. (I think one of our guys gets the bicycle cards in bulk for about a buck per deck).

How much would a set of 500 chips plus a deck or two of cards cost?

Seems like you should be a graphics designer but you wrote in your opening post "I was in the middle of receiving some gang training"... which makes it seem more like you're in law enforcement. Whatever.

I can't imagine you'll be able to get your chips and cards manufactured cheap enough to be able to market them... but they're beautiful... I'll give you that.

Thanks for sharing. And good luck to you.

I'm sure 1 or 2 people from this thread are cringing, going, "Don't encourage him!" Lol Thanks for the kind words, Buzz. I think, if no one wants to invest as much as a whole set would cost, the project's saving grace is that there are many KickStarter fans who love to contribute small and get a little piece of something cool. I'm one of 'em, so I'm sure there are others.

As for the career(s)...mmmm....you're not wrong.

I hope you're joking, because I think most of us here would love to see a poker chip KS get funded and give us yet another option to empty our wallets on. But we're also trying to give you good feedback.

I don't think anyone here wants you to fail. That's why we're being so brutally honest.

if you're gonna have that much "stuff" going on irt the logo/design of your case, the lettering needs to be a metallic color etched/embroidered onto the leather (?) surface. as it looks now there is just WAY too much going on and it's extremely displeasing to look at.

honest to god - you are great with photoshop/whatever you're using to design this stuff, but your style ideas are severely lacking and im afraid you are entirely set in your ways/aiming to prove people wrong. the chips need to lose the lettering too as i said above. im not a business guy, just a fellow artist. the chips would rock without the words on them. whether they would sell is not my specialty.

Honestly, I'm very much not set in my ways. I totally acknowledge that I'm new to design and even newer to designing poker chips and cards. I'm still learning as I go and I will be for years, I'm sure. I know my own mind, so I can objectively say that I'm one of the most humble people you'll ever come into contact with. It frustrates me when someone puts their ego before...well, anything, truthfully. I can't stand arrogant people. As we speak, based upon some stuff mentioned in the thread I have going on pokerchipforum, I'm considering revamping some parts of the design/theme, and maybe eschewing some things altogether. I mean it when I say, "I appreciate the feedback," and "Be brutally honest." The fact that you guys have taken time out of your day to participate in this thread isn't lost on me. I appreciate everyone's posts.

I mean, like in poker itself...if you're gonna let your ego get in the way of your decision-making process, your EV's gonna be in a world of hurt.

My contribution: Less is more.

Keep in mind that your canvas is very small, and the denomination is arguably the most important element on the face of the chip, especially when non-standard colors are used. What might look great on a four-inch mockup may appear overly cluttered when reduced to 39mm. Custom chippers always advise people to print the image at actual size and view it at arm's length. Similarly, I think that the cases would look much better with fewer elements.

I'm another one who immediately thought of the Sugarhouse Casino's chips when I first saw your mockup. Check them out here if you wish.

My recommendation is that you develop only one of these themes, candy or gangsters.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input, Abby. I know what you mean about the small canvas. I learned the hard way with some custom chips I designed and paid a hundred bucks for. I'm toying with the idea of ditching the text on the face of the chips, as we speak.

I agree with this statement. The link between the two seems two forced and I don't see anyone at my regular home game getting it.

A candy themed set could actually be pretty interesting. If doing a gangster themed set why not use actual gangsters? The cartoon gangsters is a hard sell.

Either way I'll be watching to see what you come up with. I am also interested to see what your secret 2nd idea (or is it 3rd?) is?
