Longer blind levels OR larger chip stacks Longer blind levels OR larger chip stacks

Hi gang.

Our regular home league game (10 players) uses 10k each in chips with 15min clock. Game lasts 3-4hrs.

For the final week of season we want a deeper game and I am not sure which will give us the best 'deeper' game....longer blind levels or larger starting stacks. We want game to last around 5hrs.

Main options are;

18k each in chips
15min blind levels

OR

15k each in chips
20min blind levels

OR

some variation inbetween.

Are there any good sites / references that discuss this?

Or does anyone have a good idea which way to go????

Cheers!

I think either looks good. 15k and 20m would probably work best and give you the right "feel" of playing deeper and longer, tho' you might go longer than 5 hours, if 10k and 15m pushes 4 hours.

Cheers mate. Was edging towards that as it incorporates a bit of both, extra chips plus bit more on the clock.

Ran the options through Patience Calculator (not the best measure I know but gives a feel at least) with following results.

10k / 15min
Blind off time 2hr 34min
Patience 6.54
Skill 4

18k / 15min
3hr 2min
9.20
5

15k / 20min
3hr 32min
12.48
6

18k / 20min
3hr 44min
13.94
6

Our regular game comes out about 1hr shorter than in real time.
Taking that into account the 15k/20min option should run good for a 5hr game.

While you're here.......!

We are staggering starting chips based on league position.
Below is the setup I have settled on for now.
What do you think of the chip %'s? Seem about right?

Cheers!!

Chips Chip %
Player 1 24000 13.9
Player 2 21000 12.1
Player 3 19000 11.0
Player 4 17000 9.8
Player 5 16000 9.2
Player 6 15000 8.7
Player 7 14000 8.1
Player 8 13000 7.5
Player 9 12000 6.9
Player 10 11000 6.4
Player 11 11000 6.4
Total Chips 173000 100.0
Avg Chips 15727 9.1

"Right" is relative. If it works for you, then it's right. Having no idea how those points were even acquired, I can't really remark on them. Looks like you're doing straight percentages, which seems reasonable.

I think you're perhaps over-thinking it a bit. Find something that feels balanced to you, and it will be fine.

There's nothing that says your blind levels have to all be the same time.

You can make 25/50 last an hour...and then go up. You've got options.

Like pfap said earlier, it is relative. How were points accumulated? Over what time-frame. Why are you playing with different sized stacks? Is this a larger game than normal?

We havent ran this league before, hence the debate.

It is the 'final' after a 10-wk league - with cash prizes.
We want a bigger final game so decided to increase total chips by about 50% and up blinds level a bit.

The staggered chips are to represent finishing positions in the 10-wk league.
We usually start with 10k chips so wanted everyone to have the usual, plus a bonus amount.
Working from this base and fact we wanted 150% chips on table, the attached chip %'s are about the best I came up with.

Talking about 'feel' this setup feels about right to me....just always happy to get input from fellow poker fiends!

Did Snyder come up with the calculator, or was it someone else?
