What up ya'll.

I'm looking for an overlay for my kitchen table that is in the form of removable cloth that will stretch out nicely and snuggly adjust to cover the table and be easily folded/rolled up and put away in a closet.

I considered getting some materials and making something myself, but "ain't nobody got time for that!"

I don't think it matters, but this won't be for poker (because I get enough of that at work everyday) but instead for various board/card hobby games. That said, I know there's enough sharps in this forum that like discussing this sort of stuff that might have good options.

One product I found that looks to be the idea I'm looking for is at www.pokerhoody.com Has anyone played on one of these? Anyone know of similar products out there to look at?

Cliffs:
What I want - cloth based cover for table that will fit somewhat snuggly
What I don't want - a table that you place on top of an existing table

Thanks guys!

I have a poker hoody that we have used a few times. Compared to the other tables its very meh, but it works as a soft top to play poker or other games on if I need a second table and I don't feel like pulling out the bigger one. It comes in a bag that it rolls up in and works for storage.

The issues I have with it: I have a oval table and couldn't get one in the exact size so there is some major overhang on the corners as I had to get a rectangle one and they wouldn't customize anything for me. The other issue I had was with the neoprene that was indented severely in a few spots on one side. I was told this was "normal" and would work its way out. I'm still waiting for that after 4 years.

Overall I would give it a 6/10

A thin fleece blanket and some big binder clips.

Might be able to just buy fleece by the yard at a fabric shop, more variety and size options.

Clip it to your table, done and done. Works pretty well. I've also seen thumbtacks used underneath, if clips won't work out.

One our hosts bought a poker hoody. He had moved away, but left it with someone, and it has been passed around at least once since then.

Maybe because it was bought a while back, but at that time the company would make it custom to fit your exact table dimensions. It worked okay for the original buyer on his rectangular dining room table. But for every other person, it has been pretty underwhelming. Even for the original owner, I wasn't that taken with it.

So, if you can get one very close to the size you need, it isn't a bad option. But if it's more than a few inches off, I'd pass.

Frankly, I think pfap has the right notion. I don't know where you get binder clips that big, though. I sheet on top of the blanket, or a piece of then fabric the size of your table, would make it even better, imo.

Picnic table clips (eBay link) would work.

Before I got a table topper as a gift from my wife, we just used a piece of felt from a local fabric store on top of a carpet pad (the ones used to keep the carpet from shifting). A bit of creative folding on the corners and strategically placed clips, and voila. Relatively cheap, and works well enough.

I love my neoprene table topper but they rarely fit a kitchen table well. With that in mind, I might check out fabric-backed neoprene that is sold by the yard -- the mouse pad stuff. Cut it to fit, no overhang, no binder clips, no hassle. Unroll it, play, roll it up and stash it in a closet.

I have a few neoprene ovals that are always a hit when I bring one to a party. If you could find the material by the yard somehow you could cut it to the right shape for your table / games.

this ought to rock: http://www.onlinefabricstore.net/3mm...-sheet-cr-.htm
I'm pretty sure you want the "lined" stuff instead of a raw neoprene foam surface. they have red which shows what I'm talking about. Get samples, ldo.

I think the poker hoody is overengineered. A roll-out giant mouse pad seems to work better. Also not to dis the "blanket" suggestion above. I play a game on one every other week, not even clipped, and think it's perfectly functional.

Thanks everyone for posting info.

Table in question is 47" by 72" and there's a poker hoody size 36"- 48" W x 65"- 80" L.

I think I'm going to go with that since it's comparable to the price of a neoprene sheet.

When my friends come over to play non poker card games we just throw a thin wool blanket (plaid) over my glass table so you can pick up cards eaiser. I dont think it would work for poker because it would probably bunch when you slid chips, but for eucher/wizzard it works great, and when not in use it hangs over the back of the couch.

I'm a fan of the poker hoodie because of the portability. Great to use when traveling or as an extra table for the occasional tournament. That being said, I play my home games on an octagon table I build and covered.

Update:

This arrived today and is pretty much awesome and exactly what I wanted. My usual opponent (wife) was impressed.

Having messed around with it today, I would also highly recommend this item to someone looking to become a poker dealer. The surface is very good and although it's not exactly the same material cloth as a casino table, it's excellent in that it has the appropriate amount of compression so that you can get used to really gripping and ripping your hand shuffles, and cards slide appropriately so that you can practice your pitch. The cost is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things.

A couple obligatory pics

A note on the roll-out neoprene mats, and neoprene mats in general - especially since you're in AZ.

They last a season or two in the car - where I keep them, since they're for emergency poker situations. What? Someone forgot the other topper?!? Then the ends start to crinkle up a bit, turn stiff, become a little warped. For the price, you can afford to change them once a year, so it's not a big deal -- just something to be aware of.

I'm glad the Hoody was a success. I'll have to sample one.
