A question came up at a recent game. This has been a topic of conversation among quite a few of us, and I thought I would ask the folks in this thread:

What do you think the effect of poker coming to Charles Town R&S will be on the local home game scene in DC/NoVa?

My personal feeling is that most of the local games that rake or compel tipping will dry up, as there will be a place where you can play with a rake that is legal and safe. I think home games that have no cost will still continue, especially those that are much more social in nature, rather than rent-grinders.

Opinions?

Dunno Phineas - CTRS will be a shorter drive for me than Manassas, and I can go on the weekend or vacation day afternoons whenever I feel like instead of weekend evenings which could be a safety concern. That being said I expect the games to be harder and the rake way more than the compulsory tipping is, which means my hourly $$ will go down, traded for some convenience. I would expect regs to stay regs but new players want to go to a real casino, since they can now.

WTF? Some mod disconnected this from the Washington DC games thread? Why? The reason I asked this in the DC games thread was that the interest in this is pretty limited to those players in that area. The thread is not just about where to find a game, but about those games, their effect on each other, and what might happen to the DC/NoVa home scene when CharlesTown poker opens. And what is with the stupid thread title? No one refers to CharlesTown Races and Slots as "CTR". If the mods are going to overmoderate the board, could they at least do it in a fashion that the readers can follow? Yet more proof that these boards are overmoderated.

Could the mods please put this back in the DC games thread and perhaps give us a little credit that the forum posters don't need this silly level of babysitting?
