We have this home tournament where 2beginners and 2 other very bad players play for just a 10$ BI.

Huge passive call station them all.

Then the ******ed guy who couldn't recognize for the whole game a single chip nor understand that two 500$ chips = 1K$ chips. He ends up calling down with 24o. Obviously he gets bit and I ask him why did he call on the river. He says completely serious he wanted to bluff. Oooooooook.

I love the bluff call on the river. I've seen it a few times myself. I never, ever criticize the person.

The bluff call is a tough play. I occasionally bluff fold, but haven't yet added the bluff call to my arsenal.

Ah the infamous "showdown bluff call". It's a thoroughly underused play due the inherent complexity and situational awareness required. I think I saw Chip Reese use it successfully, but outside of him, it's far too advanced for anyone else.

The trick to executing it successfully, is to mentally dominate your opponent so much, too make him so terrified of you calling, to stare deep into his soul so he knows with no shadow of a doubt that he is crushed, so that the moment you utter the words "I call" he instantly mucks his hand due to the certainty of his defeat.

Whenever I go to Vegas or Foxwoods, I always make a point of asking the other players their poker nicknames are.

I tell them I'm in a regular home game, and all the players have "Real poker nicknames, just like on TV."

I inevitably get asked what mine is, and I tell them it's "Bluffopotamus." (I'm a big fella .)

Then I play like a nit.

If anyone ever asks me this question, I'm stealing this answer. I'm not exactly a small guy myself.

If he is willing to pull the bluff call, I think he has a pretty big pair.

I once made what I thought was a hero call with 33 (and would of been a CORRECT 40bb call) .... I had 23 for the nut low *@&#%)(*&@

Actually 33 was one of the hands that used to win more in our game when they got in the river 3-handed.

This reminds me of this hand. Negreanu is hilarious.
