New player comes to my game, saw it posted on Interent, was suspicious but came anyway. New guy in town, just moved here from out of state.

He wins BIG (4 buy-ins), and cashes out last (as required by my security procedure). Unfortunately, my bank is short and I don't have enough cash to pay him, I have to write him an IOU for 1/2 a buy-in and tell him about a game the next night I will be going to. He agrees to drop by that game to collect.

At the next night's game, he walks in to a complete stranger's house and sees a full poker game going on in the front room. The players tell him to head on into the house into the back room for the open game. He walks into a darkened bedroom, increasingly worried he was about to get his ass kicked for winning 4 buy-ins the night before. As he stumbles into the darkened room with no poker game in sight he decides "well, this is the part where I get my ass kicked and my roll stolen".

Of course three more steps through the darkened bedroom, one turn through a walk-through bathroom, and he is in to the living room where we are playing the cash game. I have the cash to pay his marker and we all have a great game.

Actually, no offence but the new guy shouldn't of been given a marker. Someone else should of taken it, even if it means leaving down money from what you brought in for.

And there would have been plenty of guys willing to do so, but they had already all left. Since I don't like new guys walking through my house un-escorted, I always cash out the new guy last.

By the way, I found the missing money in my back pocket about 3 minutes after the guy left!

But you expect THEM to take markers from YOU? Weird logic, Mr Paranoia... and why are you leaving yourself ALONE with the newbie, if you fear them so?

Or you could cash everyone out at the same time?

Cashing out same time seems functional.

I wouldn't take a check from someone I do not know, so using a check isn't really the best idea IMO larry. How pissed would YOU be if it bounced? I'd hope this wouldn't happen, but what a hassle. I came w/ cash, I leave w/ cash kind of thing. Heh.

As for finding the money in your back pocket 3 mins after he left, this is a very poor system IMO. I'd hope that if money ever entered your back pocket from the game that SHOULD be on your check list of places to search, and really there has to be a better option to maintain consistency of money location so this doesn't happen again? Just an idea.

Well, it's not really part of my normal process or expectation, but with no more cash in the house, I thought it was all I could do (You are right, I could have written him a check, but didn't think of it.. to me checks and poker don't mix... poker and IOUs seem better.. I know...strange).

As for the paranoia, I cash out the new guy last since I had a new guy steal something from my house once on his way out.

How is this possible? Stack up the cash in seven piles and slide them forward simultaneously?

I usually ask those cashing at the end to leave the money in front of the racks holding their chips so we can double-check in case something is off.

Also, you met a new shark who sniffed out your game and invited him into other games? Do you hate money?

Just put the cash in front of the chips, wait untill everyone is cashed out and it adds up okay.

I really don't understand how people come up short in the bank at the end of the night. If you can't do like 3rd grade math, maybe you shouldn't be hosting/playing poker games.

Also, great first impression. If this was me, i would leave your game up 3.5 buyins never to play again.

Win 4 Buy-ins (collect 3.5) and never go back. Do you hate money? I'd take the IOU. As the new guy in town, you have to go back. I'd go back and bring beer for everyone.

Usually everyone waits to cash out, together, when the game is over... so if there ARE shorts, you can decide as a group what to do (if that's an option)

You'd think so, but this happenend last night:

2 of us, playing heads up. Each bought in for $100, I checked the chips that the host/banker had stacked.

The only other buy-in from the bank, when a third player joined, I eyeballed and it looked good.

At the end of the night, I was paid last... and we were short $7 ???

Do you use racks?

Racks rock. I hate it when someone comes to cash out with a nice stuffed rack and unracks it in front of me in piles. I immediataly re-rack it for the official count.

Attempted thread save:

i play in a .5 -1 mixed home game and one day we decided to play an 1-2 all cash(not chips) game the following week. It sounded like a good idea but turned out to be donkish at best. Try waiting for someone to count out 27 ones on the flop... it sucks.
At the end of the night with only 4 players left i was the big winner with about 600 in front of me. Player B had roughly 450 and was being rolled by my good freind who rode with me to the game. Then the following hand happened:
Table announces this to be the last hand.
Utg folds. Next guy moves in for 26 bucks. I look down at QQ. i call. Player B raises makes it $100 more. He will do this to iso with any A and prob any two face cards. I HAVE THE TRAP SET!!! I say "really?? 100 more?? ok, im all in!!" SNAP CALL...... oh crap. he tables AA. UTG tables 88. My face is now on fire from the donkshove sewtard hyperagg move I just HAD to make on the last freakin hand....
Flop: 8 9 5
Turn: J
River: 10
Please ship the biscuits. All 1K worth. Thanks for playing. Its the biggest pot that player B has ever played and now he is actually shaking from the beat. My good friend who has been outside the whole time walks back in and says 'B you cashed out yet so I can take my cut?' His cut was 60%. Now my friend starts to go off on me. It was the best ride home... and the worst ride home ever.

Everyone leaves in pairs in our game, or gets walked out by someone still in it. That is more due to the double door security layer to get in an out, as well as to watch the guy get into the car in case someone is hanging around outside.

I would never want to be left alone with a new guy to the game cashing him out last. Specially one who "Found me on the internet". I'd always keep someone behind while this occured.

yeah, seems a little strange tbh...

but the home games i attend everyone is usually cashed out in the next room over, and walked to the door.

Very strange situation, that third player must be a real trouble maker

Yeah, I'm pretty sure he must have shorted the bank. I was going to beat him with his cane, but it wasn't my house and I didn't know the rules.

That $2 probably saved his life, as well ;P
