The rules are that you have to keep the Lamborghini for at least 2 years. During that time you may not sell it or otherwise assign your rights in it. You can exchange it for $100,000 from PokerStars. See section 5a of the Terms and Conditions

PokerStars will, however, pay up to an additional $50,000 to import and register the lambo (section 5b).

Lol. So you're owing (depending on tax bracket) roughly $70k for the privilege of keeping the car if you win it ? Offset by your $20k first prize, I guess. Pretty disgusting. I think I'd be taking the cash option, and I'm a bit less excited about the tourney after hearing that "can't sell" requirement.

Most of the time when "cash options" are offered for prizes like this, they are for significantly more than 1/2 the prize's MSRP.

I know because I was following them closely (there aren't any more on ebay). So, real market price is anyone's guess DonkOnceMore[/QUOTE]

I sold my extra for $100. I think the market price is really what someone is willing to pay. For the higher volume winning regs the price does not seem to matter. All they care about is that they get in which makes sense considering how soft the field is. Huge edge and +EV IMO

IMHO, you are basing this on a sample size of one person (your buyer) who was willing to play a very high amount above the going market rate. Obviously most regs wouldn't be willing to pay an unlimited amount -- most rational ones would pay a maximum that is significantly lower than their EV for using the ticket (since their ROI in other tourneys they play gives them built in overlays that paying $100 for a ticket worth $100 in EV couldn't match)

I agree that offering a buy-back at 50% of their claimed value is a bit...um... low.

I am not a lawyer, nor a tax adviser, so don't take what I say without seeking professional advise.

If it is me, I will certainly argue with the IRS that the Fair Market Value of the lambo received was the $100k buy-back price minus all fees and costs as that was the only market under the conditions it was won.

fair point...........Paying an unlimited amount is not rational. However, Its as much about the car as it is the EV. Top level MTT grinders are not playing for a min cash IMO they are playing for the Car. What's a hundo or two mean to guys like Deeb or any other high stakes MTT player? Much less than it means to most myself included. and ya Holdem is a Beast

Well, I wanted to know at least a ballpark for to price at which you could sell it (once you were permitted to sell).

You have to keep it for 2 years, so you will be selling a 2011 model in 2012. Equivalent today would be a 2009 model sold now. That assumes that PokerStars is giving you a new lambo from the current model year. I don't see anything that says it will even be a new vehicle. It could be used and 10 years old. Probably not, but they don't say.

Not being familiar with the Lamborghini market, I looked on eBay Motors.

There are a couple of 2009 models that sold for >$160k. There is one 2009 model which currently has a bid at $180k, but has not met the reserve with 2 1/2 days to go on the listing.

So, even 2 years form now you should get significantly more than the $100k PokerStars will exchange for it. That assumes that you don't drive it.

For those still selling, consdiering it takes 30-45 minutes for stars to transfer the tickets at least, you might consider lowering your price to make sure you're able to sell it in time. Only a few hours left.

GL to all those who are playing this!

In the tournament lobby it says "A new Lamborghini Gallardo will be awarded to the winner of this tournament"

This is slightly misleading as you CAN sell the car back to Pokerstars as per the terms.

Have you read the rest of the thread? It had already been mentioned before his post that Stars' buyback is for $100k, which is a lousy 50% of the car's MSRP.
