ok this was live in a pub game, 4 players left my friend is the biggest stack with 45k the second biggest was 20k 3rd was like 8k and the other was 5k.

blinds 3k/6k

my friend was in the big blind and UTG raises all in for 20k he is a loose aggressive r-tard who plays A rag like its the nuts very bad player over values pairs etc, anyway the other 2 players fold and my friend is sitting on a 45k stack having to call 20k off

he wakes up with AJ whats his play?

if this was online i would know how to answer this myself but things are a little different live.

snap call? shover has 3.5BB...he is loose under normal circumstances...here he should be shoving superwide

course me and ICM are no familiar...still we have 20K if we lose

thats what i thought to be honest

the pay was only for the top 4 aswell and the payscale there is like this

4th £60
3rd £80
2nd £120
1st £260

somthin stupid like that and it only makes sense to play for the win when the buy in is only £20 + 1 £10 re-buy up intil the first break, its not a big game but its a change and stress free almost.

i felt like if my friend folded here he was potentially passing on +ev but he made the call and i will post results but alot of people were saying he made the wrong move and should have folded bear in mind these people are also results based and dont fully understand tornament poker

I think you answered your own question. There is a good chance he has him dominated and if he has a pair, its still a flip. The fact that he raises with Ax often should make it quite easy to call

yep thanks i need this thread as proof i carnt really explain to them not because im smarter but because i no more of the theory behind it

the blinds in that tornament made it a complete luck fest we got about 7 hands per blind level so ultimately through the whole tornament it was short stack play especially from 250/500 blinds onwards, its a good job they didnt have ante's tbh

anyway results

my friend AJ as you no villian flips over poket 55

flop 567

turn 3

river A

he was down to 25-20k after that hand and then lost another all in with AK agaist the same guy who pushed with J 6 and another shortstack for 5k with A9. Ofcourse the flop brought a jack and nocked them both out

my friend took 3rd for £80 if anyone is intrested and the 2k shortstack luckboxed his way to a 20k stack

Yea, especially given the biggest stack was only 7.5x the bb, i cant see waiting around for a better spot. Especially since there are some tells he had on the player. Really cant ask for a better spot. Nice chance he had him crushed and most likely not worse than a coin flip. Had the structure of the tourny been diff., then its possible to lay down, but not with those stacks, blinds, and reads on the players

Looks like a snap call to me. AJ is a monster 4-handed and you can assume an easy win if he stacks you. Calling is a good gamble, risking little in real $$$ to gain a lot. You probably have second or third even if you lose.
