Hi all
i find myself in these situations quite often where I will be facing a shove on the bubble from a tight solid player. At this point most of us are below ten big blinds although everyone are about equal in chips. Should I be passing up spots like this or should I be calling. My goal in these tournaments is to first make the money then to win the tournaments.

it depends... i think u will get better responses if u post a specific hand because there are so many factors to consider e.g. exact chip distribution, blindlevel, your ability to exploit the bubble yourself by shoving wide etc... but generally speaking you want to be the one shoving with small PPs rather than calling on the bubble...

Your goal should never be set as just cashing you always want first, of course you will not always win them but if you always wait for others to bust bubble you'll sometimes find yourself shortstack because you've waited to long. Of course when shoving to you its harder to figure if your hand is good or not , but you got to take those risks to end first.
Like Diboudo said a hand history would help much , but in my personal range if someone with 10BB shove to me on the bubble and i have 10bb too i would call with like 1010+ AJs+ AQo+ but im nitty you should try to pokerstove it .

thanks for your tip. I don't any specific hand to quote but allow me to make a hypothetical one. Lets have:
Utg : 2500
CO : 2500
Button: 10000
sb: 2500
BB: 2500

The blinds are 250/500 and you are in the small blind. The button big stack has min raise every single hand for the 5 hands when unopened to him. Everyone has folded to him in the last five hands. All players with 2500 show a stat of approx. vpip 27 and pr 18. (Trying to say that no one has really gotten out of line here) So on next hand, Utg pushes all-in. The button folds, and I have pocket 3s. Do I always have to call here? I am thinking that utg is only pushing with 22+, A9+.

The thing that confuses me most in this situation is that I am lost on how I should decide what to do here. Do I enough have room to fold in this situation?

18 players sng should be played as a 9 player sng.
Finishing itm is goal nr 1.
Calling range is fine imo
Think AQ+ 99+ is ok also.

If you only have 5 bb's left its close.

or how about this. Let say I was cheating and I know he has Kq offsuit and I have pocket 3s with no common suits. According to pokerstove I have a 2.3% edge. Should I be taking this edge or passing it up?

Small pocket pairs are good to shove with, but not so great for calling. I would almost always fold in these spots because it's terrible to take a 50/50 gamble on the bubble. Start using SNG Wiz if you want to really analyze these situations.

You have only 5BB left and if you give him a range of 22+ why wouldnt you call with any PP ?? I know its easy to say but it sometimes happens but never let you get to 5BB by opening your range and shoving on BvB or Button vs Blinds with almost ATC with less than 10BB will help you not beeing under 10BB . That beeing said yes you will encounter some premiums hand call but if you said they play ABC and dont call with almost any 2 in the long term thats +EV. And again your goal is yes set as making itm but if you always mincash , for those games when you arent ITM in the long term you'll find yourself a loosing/breakeven/slightly winner player. Of course shoving BvB with 72o and running into AA looks stupid but for the most time they fold and thats what helps you getting those extra chips. Dont be afraid to shove on limpers when you think you are ahead , most of the time this is free money.

"You have only 5BB left and if you give him a range of 22+ why wouldnt you call with any PP ??"

If his range is 22+ and you call him with pocket twos, you are going to win the hand less than 19% of the time. That would pretty much be the worst call you could ever make.

I usually wouldn't call with a small pocket pair.
