Live Tourney $65 30k guarantee. We down to 19 we already in the money. 7 handed. Blinds 6k-12k 3000ante.

I am BB with 160k and the button pushes all in for 190k. SB folds. I look down at Ah9h.

Is this a call? I don't like being the one to call off my tourney with weak ace but I feel I'm ahead good percentage of time when button pushes could be steal could be a better ace.

What is my calling range? Should it be strictly math based like any PP and A10+ KJ+ or something like that. Or based off read of opponent get a live tell and adjust range according to read.

So do we just call based on hand strength?

What would your range for calling shoves?

Ax+, 22+, K10+, Q10+ would something like that be your range of calling and all in push from button?

That's a hecka big ante. SBs stack size is relevant here, but let's assume its a 13BB eff push. button should be pushing about 40-50% of his range here. A 45% push is ~ 22+ Ax+ K2s+ K5o+ Q4s+ Q9o+ J6s+ J9o+ T6s+ T9o 96s+ 85s+ 75s+ 65s 54s.

Two things come into play

i) People tend not to push as much as they should
ii) Your range needs to be tighter because of the gap concept - http://www.thepokerbank.com/strategy...s/gap-concept/

Given those 2, I'd say a 20% calling range should be fine from BB. If you really wanted to be nitty then 15%, but A9s is going to be in both.

Thanks for the help it feels strange to call off your tourney when you've been playing solid poker and just have to get lucky and hold on some flip or 60/40 hand. But to win and be relevant you have to get lucky.

You better get used to it. Its almost impossible to cash and definitely to win these torneys without having to win some races.

Seems like a snap call online, and I think most of the time in live game I call also but if the guy is shaky and old.. I fold there and find a spot to be the guy pushing. I gotta base this spot on read of opponents play but I think calling here way more often than not is the better play imo.
