Hi guys loooong time lurker but my new yrs resolution was to finally man up and register...went ahead and took care of that one.

My other new years resolution was to maybe start having a crack at tournaments and sit and goes. Ive been playing for about 4 years at casinos, tournies and cash games. I finally deposited 50 bucks at the beginning of November and hit the 2nl and 2plo tables, i quickly moved up to 5nl and 5plo and ran it up to 400 bucks and i been playing 10nl for a few weeks now and my got my bankroll up to 500 bucks, up 10 buy ins at that level.

I have a pretty good winrate at 10nl and absoltuely crushed 2nl and 5nl. I am a full time student with a part time job, and been grinding micro cash tables pretty much every day 4-5 hours per day. I 8 table the cash games and have shown very good profit for 2 months of playing. I would like to do this full time one day but obv gonna focus on finishing school first.

Having said that...grinding micro stakes cash is about as much fun as getting a root canal. And lately over the holidays ive been cranking out a few sit n gos and tournmanents with good results. Sample size is laughable but i have thouroughly enjoyed playing 12 tables of 18 man, 27 man, 45 man, 90 and 180 man sit n goes with occasional deep runs in some larger field mtts.

For cash i want to have 40 buy ins for each level..so right now i feel like i can grind sit n goes and can "afford" to lose 100 bucks if things dnt go well and then decide if i want to keep doing it or switch back to cash. However my mindset is to start grinding sit n gos and tournies and have a 500 dollar roll.

What stakes should i start at? one dollar? two dollar? 5dollar? I can multitable really well and the most tables i can play at a decent level is about 20 tables as i have played 8 cash tables and 12 tournies at the same time. My realistic goal is to play about 10-12 at a time over 4-5 hrs/day.

I read the stickies for mtts and sit n goes but getting feedback from other grinders and knowledgable ppl on this site could go a long way towards helping me in establishing just what stakes to start at, when to move up, etc.

I understand that the variance in sit n gos and mtts is ridiculous, however i dnt feel too bad losing a race or a 70/30 because i can just fire up another one. Where as, in a cash game losing a 40 dollar pot on a bad beat stings waaaay more. Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.

lol.

No one can tell you whether to switch or not, the best thing to do is just spend the 4-5 hours you normally spend on micro cash, playing micro MTT's instead. Do this for a month or so and the results should tell you... Volume's the only way to find out which is more profitable for you and which you enjoy more.

On a $500 roll there's a buncha sng's you could play, there's $4.40 180 mans that run regularly aswell as the $5.50 18/27/45/90 man tournys. If you prefer turbos they have the same, but the entrys are $7.70 for 180s and $3.25 for the smaller fields.

I hate turbos! lol and i know for a fact i enjoy mtts more simply due to the weaker players and "fun" aspect of eliminating ppl and getting down to the final table with the glittery lights lol, i play on ftp obv. I also like the rake back, which at teh stakes i was playing wasnt much but it definitely helps a bit especially with a smallish roll. 500 roll i can play the 5.50s? i been eying those but didnt wanna play em due to fear of being "underolled"

start out with the 4/180s imo

if you're beating cash, those shouldn't be much of a struggle for you.. read up on shoving ranges etc and just play abc poker. ez game. If you like those, then give mtts a try, just need to put in a lot of volume.

yea definately play the 4/180's... thats how i grinded my roll up, also 90mans and 18mans... 180s are the best option though imo... $500 is a plenty big enough roll for them too.

He's on FTP. Unless you're suggesting he switch his bankroll to stars, you're advising him on the wrong site.

FTP actually isn't great for micro SnGs. They're micro MTT selection is pretty solid, but until you're up to the $12s registration is kind of sparse. I'd keep grinding cash until you're up to ~$800, then give the $5.50/45s a shot, they're pretty juicy.

Also, **** full tilt.
