Hey guys, I'm very unsure about a hand i played in a step 3 WSOP qualifier.
The bubble just burst (3 to 5 get a new step 3 ticket), which made me think this guy's range is really wide.

No Limit Holdem Tournament
$75+$7
5 players
Converted at weaktight.com

Stacks:
UTG nitetrumpet (2055)
CO losvolcanes (1665)
BTN NeocortexX (4650)
SB deut23-10 (850)
BB Hero (4280)

Blinds: 150/300 Ante 25

Pre-flop: (575, 5 players) Hero is BB T A
nitetrumpet goes all-in 2030, 3 folds, Hero calls 1730, Hero says "this might look really stupid..."

Flop: 5 2 4 (4335, 2 players)

Turn: J (4335, 2 players)

River: Q (4335, 2 players)

In hinsight a fold looks a lot better.
So if this was really stupid, dont be shy to tell me why

The flop, turn and river aren't important as the money is in already. It's what you had, what you put his range on, and what he showed.

I do agree that his range could be really wide. Having played about 10 or 12 step 3's, I've observed that people basically freeroll it once they get down to 5 remaining. The game dynamic changes substantially.

Stats on the villain could well be useful - do you have any?

Virtually tied for first five handed, I don't like this call. I agree that to some the bubble has burst and anyone under 10bbs are feeling pressure. But with 3 smaller stacks to get through, I don't think villain can be all the confident that it'll be folded around. So, I would put him on a range that fares pretty well against AT.

Also, With your table position, you will be able to put a lot of pressure on and have a lot of fold equity against the sb/bb when you're on the button. With shorter stacks at the table those 2 will have to play pretty tight so you should be able to maintain/chip up while others bust out.

I think this is the important concept to keep in mind.... Your sitting in a really good position and should be the aggressor. Why call off chips when you can just wait and open/raise with a much wider range and put the pressure on the short stacks. If the blinds were higher this might be different but at this level there's much better spots to be calling ai pushes. Be an actor, not a reactor.
