totally acceptable IMO. being smart and exploiting the structure to gain an edge isnt disgusting or even remotely unacceptable IMO

If you dont stall, youre allowing yourself to be freerolled by those that do.

Lol at disrespecful. It's a freaking online Double or Nothing SNG. If you dont want to have to deal with it, play a different format where there isnt such a huge advantage to stalling. I played DONs for about a year so Im not trying to diss the format. But if you choose to play a SNG where implicit collusion and blind stalling are so easy and profitable to do, you need to be ready for stuff like this.

The sites really shouldn't have timed levels for DONs. That's the only disgusting part.

sorry never played a DoN b4... how is stalling supposed to give you an advantage..??
my guess.. : short stack 800chips, bb200, stall, blinds go up to bb400, now shorty is in evn more trouble?

Right idea juandadi, except DoNs have a great blind structure and there's a bb300

Usually happens when the blind are high enough to force someone all in when the BB hits him, e.g. at 200/400 someone is on BTN with 600 chips, while CO has 900 chips, BTN's best strategy is to try to stall so the blind increase will most likely force CO to be all in. If CO catches on that the blind increase will hit him (which he won't, surprisingly often), then he has to shove this round and will get called down really light. Either way, it's win/win for BTN to stall.

Stalling is such a good strategy in high blind bubble situations when you're the shorty or 2nd shorty that to not do it would be -EV. Only time it pisses me off is when you're one of two shorties and the big stacks stall to force you in first, even when it doesn't help their EV that much.

That said, I play too many tables (~20 atm) to keep up with the blind increase timer all the time. If I see a spot like what I described above (and if I have time), though, I'll check the lobby to see if stalling is an option, but I'm sure I miss a lot of opportunities.

It would be nice if there were a script to display the blind timer on the tables themselves.

Anyway, I don't think it's disrespectful or anything, it's legitimate strategy. Best way to counter it is to pay attention to spots where your opponents could potentially screw you over by stalling, and shove while the blinds are still low rather than get forced in in the BB with 82o against 4 people.

How can you not have timed levels? What's the alternative?

Play whatever is the average number of hands at each blind level.

Are there any sites that do this? I'm not sure this would work anyway, though...couldn't someone just keep track of the hand #s ? Instead of clicking on the lobby they'd just have to click on the hand history.

What would this accomplish? You can stall for time but you cant stall for hands in a one table tournament.

lol, I guess you're right. It would still be useful to know when they're going up, but you're right that stalling wouldn't be possible. I iZ dumbz sry

I don't understand why there is so much discussion still going on? It's a viable advantage that is quite frankly easily gained and often missed by a lot of weaker players. It sucks when you are the receiving end but it should inspire you to take advantage as well. It sucks when people always raise in position to your blinds, but that doesn't mean whoever raises from late position is doing anything wrong. They are taking advantage and that's part of the game.
