Haven't heard anyone talking about this yet...

http://www.cardplayer.com/poker-tour...t-maarten-open

$3k main event, other events from $200-$1000.

Call it an early PCA/chance to get some sun.

I'll be going - its only a 20 min flight for me. Or I might go on my friends boat.

Anyway if anyone is going to go let me know. St. Maarten is a pretty crazy place with plenty of hookers and blow, strip clubs, nude beaches, etc.

Hmm, would love to but am off to Puerto Rico next weekend and then Vegas in Nov. Not sure i could swing all 3. All though a trip to Goldeneyes and Bliss is very tempting

This event used to be run in St. Kitts through Sun Poker as the "Caribbean Poker Classic". Was always a good time. I think last main event was $6k buy in $1m guaranteed. And Zig was there doing this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZh3yZhTOZ4

I don't know why they changed it. I'm not even sure I'm gonna go now if there's only 100 runners and I live 40 miles from St. Maarten.

Whats the poker scene like in St Kitts Mr_donk? I live in the BVI and its pretty non existant apart from a few home games. Have to travel to the casino in St Croix although its probably just as easy flying to St Maarten and much more fun

There's not much of a poker scene to speak of. There is a small group that play every week. 2/5 nl every tuesday (has been paying my bills for awhile) and a $100 rebuy tourney every thursday (only gets 1 or 2 tables). During tourist season there are a lot more random games but its generally at the Marriott casino on those pokerpro electronic tables and doesn't get above 1/2nl.

I've only played in St. Maarten a few times but there is a regular 2/5 game every night at the Casino Royale that is full of donks...mainly tourists and restaurant/bar staff getting off of work. The only prob is 10% up to $25 rake!?!

I think I am going but just from next Friday to Sunday...maybe play the $500 and $1000, some cash games and mostly just hang out. Not sure yet though, a group of us are chartering a plane from St. Kitts, depends what they all want to do.

I agree.

The smaller tournaments on the weekend should be huge though. Lots of wealthy degens on that island.

I def wouldn't call it a dump. Out of the Leeward Islands it does have the most trashy/Atlantic City feel to it, but that's only if you stay around the Maho and airport area where most of the strip clubs and **** are. The rest of the island is gorgeous.
