Preflop: Hero is in SB with 6 4
CO folds, Button folds, Hero raises to t865 ,
SNGwiz says that this is a push but I am trying to understand the reason. I feel like SNG is having push a lot more hands that I normally wouldn't but I think overall it is helping my ICM game. I am not mad about the result which is I lost because the BB had 77. But I just want to understand the reason why this push is good. I know that ICM is overall not perfect but just confused I guess. Please help me bring light to this situation.
you're in bad shape and on the bbl. BB can't afford to double you up weakly and become the new shortstack, so he should be calling fairly tight. You're in really bad shape for chips and adding 225 to your stack is significant. You also have some FE too so you should be shoving ATC here.
Alright cuz I did the same thing in another tournament with 72 o and the similarly situation the guy called with like Q8 but its good to know I am making the right play even though the result does not show.
You need the 200odd chips so this is an ATC push.
The BB will most likely fold anything less than 55 as he is always going to bubble if you win the flip.
Unlucky that your ATC were rubbish
I fear I would be looking for better cards out of the next 3 hands to shove.
In other circumstances that might be OK, but here the only person you (should) have any folding equity against is the BB. You're way better off pushing trash into him when he has to call somewhat tightly, than pushing a random hand into one of the two big stacks who can call much more loosely.
wbmustang look at it this way. What would you rather have:
Situation A.)
Get it all-in vs. the other shortstack on a 30-70 situation. And when you win you'll be in the money, thus a clearly increased chance to cash in the tourney.
or
Situation B.)
Get it all-in vs. the bigstack on a 70-30 situation. And when you win you'll only have a mildy-better chance to finish ITM.
This is the reason why you want to push 64o here. If you happen to be called, you'll still be in a good spot to cash in the tourney... and it'll be better then the alternative (getting in with KK vs. AXo vs. the big stack for instance)
