Should I ask for a better staking deal? Should I ask for a better staking deal?

Hey guys,

I've been grinding 45-man SNG's on Stars for a little while now with a pretty good volume (since I play frequently with 6 tables open at a time) on a friend's stake of $100. I'm almost at $900 now and have just moved up one level. My ROI is currently sitting at 34% but I want a larger sample size before I can say that's solid. I'm very happy with my strategy right now (though it may need to be altered if/when I move up further).
My username is MrWarranty if you want to check OPR for more details.

My question is, would now be a good time to ask my friend for a better staking deal than 25%? He put up all the original money, but obviously at this point there's little risk for him and I've already made him considerable profit. I remember that small stakes used to go for 50/50 + stakeback to the backer, but I don't know if that applies in high volume. What's a good deal for me, given my stats? I don't want to offend him by asking for too much, but I think I've shown myself to be worth more than 25%. Thanks in advance.

umm, pay back the money and play with your own?

My thought too. Pay back what you owe, and start w/ your $$, even if it means sticking at the current level you are beating for a bit longer.

This is definitely a consideration and I appreciate the advice and might decide to go with this plan.

However, for my own reasons, which are difficult to explain, I may wish to continue with a staking deal. If I do decide to stay with him as my backer, what kind of deal would be fair?

50/50 would be a standard deal for a sng grinder...(plus stakeback obv)...

You are getting ripped off. 50-50 with make-up is standard, 60-40 without.

No... after our Vegas trip, I stopped being successful at the cash games for whatever reason. Some of it had to do with stress... playing as a primary means of income just didn't seem to work for me. I cashed out a lot of my roll and busted the rest. I'm scaling back on poker anyway, because my fiancee (this actually might be the first I've mentioned of this) disapproves. Such is life.

our staking deal at first was him getting 25% of a $100 account, don't know what make-up means, don't see how a free staking deal can be a ripoff
anyway,
yeah a little bit ago, after the first half of this thread, he bought another 25% of himself, so hes up to the 50-50
now he wants more of himself, so I'm posing a question to you guys,
what do you think is the best solution?
I think he should actually take less of himself, let me bump his $1500 account up to 3k, and he takes 25% instead, so he can play in the $30 big MTTs and sat into some 100s.
He seems to want to take more of himself and get down to like 1k, I see no reason to waste good tourney ability on the low stakes when he could be playing higher stakes and making both of us money.
In fact, I'd bump it up to 30%, making his equity in the account insta900 up from 750 which is a nice holiday bonus IMO.
Of course he can't then decide to cash out any time very soon :-p
you guys think this is a good deal?

BTW I gave him a free 20% stake in the sunday million (he put 0$ up) last week as a bonus for a job well done on this account

+1

You obviously are a winning player and you should be getting a better deal, Bond has a good staking guide around here somewhere, do a search I am sure you will find it.

did you even ****ing read my post?
I ALREADY made it 50-50 a couple weeks ago, and now I offered him to keep that deal or a different deal (higher stakes with a decreased % - he accepted)

Yes I read it, and he is an idiot for accepting the "different deal" imo.

alright so in addition to not being very appreciative of a free stake, you would also reject a different deal even if you had no idea what the terms of the new agreement were
which you don't.
Apparently he didn't just make a bad decision, but hes an "idiot" for accepting an unknown higher stake for an unknown lower %?
nice logic

just in case you care, which I'm sure it doesn't matter b/c your mind is already made up, but the new deal is 1/3rd of a 3k account, with room to negotiate further later
if you want I'll break down the math as to why this is a better deal (for both of us) but you can probably do it yourself
