Playing in a live mtt with about 40 runners. Tables are 6 handed. Hero has 45,000 villain has ~28,000. Villain seems reasonable, pretty aggressive.

Blinds are at 100/400/800
Hero: UTG raises 2100 with KhJh
+1 folds
+2 fold
BTN folds
SB 3-bets to 4500
BB- fold
hero calls
pot( 10400)

Flop Ac Kc 7s
SB checks
Hero bets 4500
SB calls

pot 19500
Turn 8c
SB checks
Hero Checks

River 2h
SB shoves for ~17,000

So I'm not sure that betting out on the flop was a good idea (Actually I have no idea why I did) but given that that happened what do you make of the river shove?

Thanks

Betting the flop is horrible, you get value of nothing, he's never going to fold an ace and you beat hands like QQ-88. I'd say he's playing check/call with a hand like AQ-AJ or KQ with showdown value, otherwise he would bet the flop because it's good for his range.

Yeah I know the flop bet was herrendous. It was a spewy ill thought out play but I was wondering what you make of the vilians river shove? Just a value shove? Seems large

He was planning to c/c you again on the turn. Now he's trying to get value by making it look like a bluff. He knows you have something weakish but doesn't want you to check behind again.

+1 to check flop and go from there. As played, yeah fold river.

Yeah, flop bet is a massive mistake. He less than a pot sized bet by the river, so doing this with his Ax hands is not unreasonable. Think we have to fold once he shoves river.
