Rebuy Tournaments, EV Question

Okay so I was in a spot tonight w/ 2k chips at the end of the $3r on Stars and was debating adding on the $3 3k chips. I did because I always hear it is +EV to do so, but I have never seen anything to back this up. Can anyone explain to me:
#1: How do we determine it is +EV to addon all the time? (I understand the chips are worth more since there are people who entered and didn't rebuy or anything thus leaving dead money and I believe increasing your tournament equity by doing so, but what math shows this proof?)
#2: Is there a point where adding on is no longer beneficial or worth the extra BI cost?

#3 (Bonus Round): I once played a live plo rebuy where I rebought so many times that I had to get 4th just to break even. Luckily I shipped it. But hopefully you can kind of see where I stand on the matter.

Yeah, I see that, but rebuying is a different monster. I'm thinking of specifically the add-on, after rebuys are done.

a big reason to play rebuys is that you're (everyone mostly) is buyin in for at least 4x and only playing the 30c in rake, so the rake goes from 10% to 2% (and probably less), i don't know how you can debate the addon, more chips means you have a bigger edge, pretty simple imo, i don't know any mathematical way to put it

always addon, 100%. people made arguments that if you have 1 million chips, and addon is 3k chips you shouldn't addon, but mostly it's a moot/theoretical point. pretty much always addon, even if you have 100k, and the addon is 5k (and you'll be so so so lucky if you have 100k) . the addon price shouldn't even matter to you anyways if you are playing the rebuy.
in the spot you stated, 2k chips (3k chip addon for $3), of course you should be adding on. you will have 10 BBs after the rebuy period, compared to 33BB (i cant even remember if rebuy ends at 150 so just change the # of BBs) and you will have alot more play which is important since you are the better player and the more play = higher chance of skill showing through.

Thank you chess for some reasoning basis.
Note: That add on took me from 9bb to like ~20bb. Both spots pretty much suck either way, but when it comes down to getting your money in I guess I'll just run w/ the simplest explanation that is maximizes EV.
Where was this debate on the add on being pointless at a certain threshold? 2p2 forum or elsewhere?
