Playing 88-JJ in early Position

Any advice for the playing med pairs earlydoors, its seems i cant win. I raise i either get re raised ending up folding it or call, brick the flop and end up either bettin and getting 3 betted off it or check/folding.
Or limp/calling and getting out flopped! Had tens UTG+1 limped folds to BB flop comes 5-8-4, he bets i raise he goes all in then your just bloody guessing in the end i call he flopped str!
I do take into account players pre flop tendencies, but to no avail.
