So basically seems like all the people on the interwebs are playing day 1a? That's cool...

Day 1A Amazon Orange 85 Seat 7

I figure after going 1/21 here in Vegas (and even the 1 being a mini-cash), I've saved up all my run good for the Main Event. Not even nervous or excited, just ready...

Regarding Timex's question about expectation, I'd expect my deep-stack MTT poker skills to be in the Top 10% of the field and for that to translate into 100-200% long-term ROI given the structure. So, yes, the ~100th best player (who is better than me) is likely to have 300%+ long-term ROI.

The problem is that no player can ever get anywhere close to their long-term expected ROI in their lifetime. You might get to play 50 times maximum and even a good player might cash only around 10 times. With an average field size of 8000 players only a few of your lifetime cashes will likely be in the Top 100 and you have a significantly less than average chance of ever making the Final Table.

Nevertheless, I'm confident that I'm binking it this year

NLHE MS/HS cash game players have a better ROI in this than most mtters, imo.
07-03-2009 , 04:35 AM

doubtful

edit: if theres one tournament where Tourney Donks > good Cash game players in terms of ROI in a certain tourney, id say its this one. Sure there fundamentals are not as good, but they deal with these donks all the time and generally dont spew as much which is something that you shouldnt be doing early in this tourney with the infinite clowns.

The argument for the cash game players is that this tournament plays incredibly deep. It is not a push/fold sort of tournament for the vast majority of play.

Wow, I decided to read the thread to find someone at my table. It was clearly an absurd idea, but whatever... I'm at the same table with you, in Seat 1. GL, but don't raise like every button

Day 1D should have the most players of the 4 days, so they may "close" registration for 1D, hoping to add more people to Saturday and Sunday, then reopen registration late Sunday afternoon.

Last year's entrants:

July 3 - 1297
July 4 - 1158
July 5 - 1928
July 6 - 2461

Useless post #2....

Completely generalized and useless profile of each day 1:

a.Day 1A: People who have been there for 6 weeks and wanna get the hell out of dodge if they lose.

b.Day 1B:People who work who fly in Friday and play Saturday. Also people who might be predisposed to have no respect for the July 4 holiday. (British,Muslims, etc)

c.Day 1c: People who want to avoid playing online sundays or avoid the people who do play online sundays...also Sabbath observers and people who got so smashed Friday night after getting into town that they couldnt make it to reg on Sat.

d.Day 1d:People who want to spend the least amount on hotel rooms, people with families, people who enjoy the holiday weekend in general.

What is the best way to follow the main event? What options are there? Does following it live ruin the TV broadcast? Should I just wait for the TV broadcasts (which will be seemingly years in the future)? Please advise. 2+2, you're my only hope.

Also, I agree that the title on this thread should be changed to somehting more eye catching.

Doug/Scary_Tiger are right, Charder has no idea what he's talking about IMO. This is the best tournament of the year for cash players, because it involves more postflop play than any other tournament due to the awesomeness of its structure.

I forgot 4 names: Thorladen, tbt, Doug Kim and Doug Lee. They will replace two Gazeses and Dan Shak and Grossboro780...
