So there's the monthly ironman where you have to play for at leas 15 days and get like 100 points per day, then there's the ironman end-of-year bonus where you get a bonus amount for the ironman qualification you made during the preeceeding 6 months.

The catch is that if you qualified for ironman for 5 months, but failed in December, you get nothing. I qualified for 4 months, failed to qualify in December and got nothing.

I actually got a really quick response from them, which I was shocked at.

And, I used to think rakeback was the reason to play there, but the 11+1s w/ rakeback have the same rake percentage as the 15+1s at stars, plus stars has the VIP club. The more I think about it, the more I want to switch

ok, I'm not even close then. Probably won't email ftp and ask for the money I didn't qualify for then.

Maybe i'll email my ipoker affiliate though and ask them for the $500 in rakeback I missed out on after getting booted from their skin and having to play on ftp for a bit instead. I'm sure if I send enough people emails asking for free money, someone might give me some.

Kvaughan, there was a thread awhile back about someone who barely missed the midyear bonus by a day or two... IIRC, he emailed support with some drawn out message of "i'm going to switch to stars if I don't get this bonus... I'm not trying to be hostile, but it's not worth playing on your site if I don't achieve this bonus... etc etc... it's a minuscule amount of money for you to give up, and you will be missing out on my future business if you don't" ... something like that anyway

He got the bonus btw.

I thought u played the $24s though? The rakeback from these outweighs playing the $16s on stars imo... pretty soft for the most part too

You only needed to play 10 days. You could purchase Iron Days for the other 5 days.

Thanks for the comment. I e-mailed support and made a thinly veiled threat to move to pokerstars. They told me no. I just PMed FTPsean, we'll see if he does anything.

I do play the 24s, but the rake minus the amount you get for rakeback on a 22+2 is the same in terms of percentages as the rake amount on the pstars 15+1s.

If, for example, I played the 27s on Pstars I would be paying a much smaller rake% when you account for the VIP club.

Softness is a good point though. I've never really played on Pstars, so I don't really know how it compares

I qualified for a measly 7 days, again, because I didn't think it would screw up my bonus. Also, I think the max you can buy is 4, but I could be wrong.

I did this exact thing 6 months ago. I missed June by a few days so shot an email. At first I was told no, then I replied just explaining that it's definitely +EV for them to give me my $400 bonus because I've payed thousands of dollars in rake and would like to continue to do so. They saw no problem in my request at that point. I didn't threaten them or be hostile or tell them I'm going to stars, just said that I would like to continue paying you lots of money so I don't see the harm in giving me a bonus worth a fraction of what I've payed in rake.

I think AD is pretty easily the best sitcom ever (if you can call it that). If Soap is at all comparable I need to get on that.

I'm properly giving Moby a listen for the first time

oh baby

AD is pretty darn good. I watched 7 episodes today.

I'm not really one to plan ahead a long way for a vacation, so even thinking about trips more than a year from now is pretty good for me.

Lake Superior - maybe Canadian side - summer of 2011.
Switzerland - summer of 2012

Something in California summer of 2010?

Micro,
My dad loved Soap and wanted me to watch it. I think Soap suffers a lot from sketch comedy shows parodying soap operas all the time in the past 20-30 years. It clearly was original, but it no longer is, which makes the jokes suffer. Though I could easily change my mind if I saw it from the beginning. AD is obviously fantastic and it is really incredibly layered, while not nearly as good I liked the new Hurwitz show Sit Down, Shut Up (though I maybe the only one)

I loved Hurt Locker and it was definitely in my top 5 this year (along with Funny People, Inglorious Basterds, A Serious Man and In the Loop though I will prob need to knock one of those out once I see Big Fan). I think people expected it to be more than a really good action movie, since it was a critically acclaimed indie film about Iraq, which led to mixed reviews caused by inflated expectations.

I loved Soap, but from 1977-1981, so I was 9-13 years old. So, I'm not entirely sure I would love it now, but it was basically the same basic show as AD - though the specific jokes/writing/characters are not necessarily the same.

I'd say my expectations were pretty in line with what I got with Hurt Locker - maybe it was even a little better. I knew it was really highly rated, but I basically knew what it was about and didn't expect it to be THE BEST MOVIE EVER or anything. It was quite good and the main character was great. I may not have seen as many movies as you (at least if you don't count kids movies) but it was definitely in my top 5.

My top four, not necessarily in order:

Inglorious Basterds
Zombieland
Up
Hurt Locker

(I tried to pick 5, but it was hard to pick between a few for the 5th - I haven't seen Invictus, The Road, A Serious Man, Crazy Heart, Broken Embraces, or Ponyo - all of which could possibly be contenders)

ahh, I was misunderstanding and thinking we were talking this summer for canada.

my daughter wants to try touring so I'm gonna get in some sort of shape and get us equiped well enough to do one or 2 trips this summer, one probably being yellowstone. I have a bike that will probably work for her and could convert the gearing in the road bike I have now if I dont feel rich enough to spring for a new one. as long as I go ahead and get ready I'll be ready when other trips come along also.
01-04-2010 , 03:29 AM
If you guys want to organize a trip somewhere out there for this summer I can be a maybe, but we already have a vacation in Feb. and another this summer and the only way I'll feel rich enough for another vacation is if I'm so busy that it'll be hard to pull off.

Some real good movie suggestions ITT. I bought and read The Road by Cormac McCarthy (the writer of No Country for Old Men) and finally finished it today. It was pretty good imo. I really want to watch the movie now but it's now leaving theatres, there's only one showing that I can find in my area tomorrow and I can't make it at that time. Bleh.

Has anyone seen the movie version? It recieved good reviews but from what the box office #'s suggest is that no one has seen this thing. The studio must have decided it wasn't worth pushing because I go to the movies often and never saw a preview for this and still didn't realize what it was about until after I had gotten the book, weeks into the movies box office run. It probably doesn't help that it was released around the same time as Avatar though.
