If there was no padding, players wouldn't lead with their heads anymore. So, I doubt there would be any death.

Maybe 1 or 2, but the play would be a lot different

You realize that helmets and shoulder pads are really hard, and that they enable the guy wearing them to hit you at full speed with utter fearlessness, yeah?

Guys get absolutely exploded on the reg in football, the frequency of high impact collisions just doesn't exist in other sports.

Rugby's a tougher/more violent sport imo not because of the lack of padding, but because of all the absurd dogfight type **** that goes down in the ruck that just doesn't happen in football because the plays stop when somebody gets tackled.

If you played rugby games in pads and helmets, I doubt you would ever be able to finish a game with 15 able bodied guys on a side
