Definitely get an SSD imo. The 5400rpm hdd it comes with is pretty slow.

Thoughts? Looks like this is last years model, and this specific one is refurbished, but it looks pretty solid all around still.

If anyone has any recommendations for me they would be appreciated, basically just needing something thats gonna be super dependable to grind on when i'm not on the desktop, also would like something not over 15", and maybe i'm putting too much emphasis on screen resolution but I would like a 1600x900, if that is totally unnecessary please inform me on that.

Thanks

Screen Resolution is the most important factor when selecting a poker laptop. afaik there are few if any 15" laptops with greater than x900. I still recommend 1080p, but x900 is fine. You'll be hard pressed to find greater in a small to medium laptop. My 16inch Vaio F series (2011) has 1080p and I don't know of any modern windows systems pushing 1080p outside of 17inch formats.

What an amazing sight to see it actually working haha. It's great!
Happy Holidays to you all and thanks for the technical assistance.

Oh, is the dell 30 inch a good monitor? I was thinking about getting a back up monitor sometime soon. Any suggestions for a good value on a 30 inch?
Good to hear that you got it to work.
If I needed to buy one now I'd go with either Dell U3011 or HP ZR30W

Thanks
One can't go wrong with Genelec's imo.

I have a pair of 6010A's connected to my laptop and they do sound pretty good.

why don't you guys just pickup desktops for half the price and extra expansion capabilities (e.g. decent graphics card to allow you to upgrade to 3 monitors if you get the urge). Your all buying a decent monitor to go with your laptop anyway i assume? SSDs are also cheaper for towers than laptops.

So something like this? Is the price difference of £220 really justified? I don't mind paying up for a quality laptop that's gonna last, just don't wanna be ripped off.

I'm not sure if the price difference is justifiable or not. That's a good system, you just need to decide the value of money.

I have a desktop, I use it for gaming. I like my laptop for being able to go places, hang out with other people while I play, etc. Also, the "half price" thing is a bit of an overstatement now. Maybe 2/3 price.

Lots of laptops come with at least 2 ports. A DVI and HDMI for example, which would be 3 monitors.

Huh? As far as I know they're the same. Unless you're talking about external SSD's... but I use an internal SSD just like you would in a tower.

Im on the lookout for a new desktop tower for my poker in the new year.

Ideally i would like something that allows me to run HEM 1 or 2, Table Ninja and TST using perma scan when playing 16+ tables with out any lag at all hopefully.

Throw in some music on the headphones and we are all set to go.

Ive looked at Dell and was looking at this one.

http://www.dell.com/uk/p/xps-8500/pd...el_id=xps-8500

Just wondering if this is easily enough or should i tweaked it in certain areas ?

Would 1600x900 on a 13.3" fit six tables, or do I need 1920x1080?

Thanks

depends on how big you want the tables...

1920x1080 can 12 table tile stars/tilt with the tables minimized to the smallest they can be fwiw (no overlap)

My Samsung Syncmaster 305t might be on its way out (it's started flickering, a common problem with this model when some parts dry out/fry), I'm gonna have it looked at (and replace the cable since that's another common reason for this problem), but if that doesn't work I'll want a new one...

Not really super hot on the idea of spending 1k+ on it tho (this one when it was new was almost 1.5k), and so was pleasantly surprised when looking around Gmarket that there's some cheaper alternatives in the world of 30" monitors nowadays...

Anyone have any experience with this monitor: Crossover 3020MDP ? 550$~ but don't know anything about it or the brand...\

Alternatively, a solid 27" would work as well. I don't really play more than 9 tables ever, but I enjoy the visibility of a bigger monitor when doing so.

Having issues with new laptop, pretty frustrating considering I splashed out for a new laptop to be free off hassle, not to increase.

Anyway posted in the IT forum off my iphone and xposting here to see if anyone recognises the issue I'm having.

Transfer your games and media to the second hard drive (or just redownload them...) and you should be able to get under 200gb no problems. Download Treesize free and you can easily find what is using up all your storage to help you decide what should be on the 2nd drive.

Things you'll want on your SSD: Windows, Programs like firefox/chrome; Skype; Pokerstars; etc., Postgres, HM2/PT4.
Things that don't need an SSD: Music, TV/Movies, and most games.
Finally got around to doing all of this, and wooooow, can't believe I put up without an SSD for so long. TYVM again for the help.
