A couple of spots where idk if my play is standard or too aggro:

1. $2 tourney, blinds 200/400, 10% antes.

Hero (9.6k) opens to 800 UTG+1 w/Ah9s, UTG+3 (5k) calls, folds, folds, folds, BB (4.9k) calls.

Flop: 543 rainbow. Both Villains have 4k behind, pot is 3k. BB checks, Hero jams

2. $11 tourney, blinds 100 200, 10% antes.

Hero (2.6k) opens UTG with AsJs, folds around, SB (4.4k) calls, BB (8.2k) calls.

Flop: 7c10c8s. SB bets 200, BB calls, Hero jams 2.2k

Note: I know I should have open jammed this hand, so plz don't tell me that in your response.

hand 1 I don't love cuz you're risking half of a decent stack and the 9 may not even be an out sometimes. I'd prob shove AQ/AK, maybe AJ tho.

hand 2, completely fine/std.

hand 1: too early a position (generally) to be opening A9o.

The actual size of the blinds has little relevance.

Wait, let me get this straight...you're saying one shouldn't adjust his/her opening range given the size of the blinds??

I am never opening A9o UTG+1 in the first ~10 levels of a tourney. After that, depending on table dynamics I'm willing to open as wide as K10o UTG if I know there's a very good chance it's going to fold around.

I can't find the link to the thread atm, but there's a great thread this guy wrote on how when it comes to blind stealing, your actual holdings don't matter as much as you think they do -- it's as much about table dynamics as it is about actual ranges. Now I know that's a strong statement...but in my experience it's pretty on point

Your decision whether and when to steal depends on many factors, but I wouldn't consider the actual size of the blinds an important factor. I think you're drawing a false connection to blind sizes based on the gameplay during later stages of tourneys.

I said "generally" because yes there are some tables where you could get away with such an open, but I would consider them the exception and not the norm.

Under some situations of stealing your cards may not matter, but your position and the number of opponents to act after you does.
