Day 2 of the WPT $200k GTD at Choctaw this past weekend.

$100 + $20 buy-in (one bullet); 5,000 entrants; 252 get paid; nearing bubble.

Blinds might have been 2000/4000 with 1000 ante

Villain is UTG +1 (maybe 50 bb - super laggy aggro bully) raises 8.5k

Hero (16 bb) 3bets from c/o to 20k with AJ off-suit.

Villain calls

Flop = 3s-Jh-8c

Villain checks

Hero is all-in for remaining 44k

Villain folds
------

I thought immediately my all-in was the wrong move and that I should have bet for better value. Considering the circumstances, and my remaining stack, maybe all-in was the right move since he possibly had my Ace dominated, but I doubt it. I just felt that flopping top pair with the best kicker on that sort of a dry board might have gotten a little more money out of it? I'm not sure. I'm not sure if he is calling my 3bet with hands like 9-10 and I want to see another card or just take it down there.

I guess my all-in is not getting him to fold any better hands. And it's making him abandon lesser hands, so it seems like its the wrong move?

I did this a few times in this tournament. Played around with A-9 and flopped a rag rainbow with 9 as the top pair and over bet or went all-in when I probably should have bet for value. It was my first live tournament this large and only my third ever. I ended up min-cashing but I'm just trying to go over all my miss-steps for next time. And there are plenty more

Thanks.

shove pre flop dont 3bet without the nuts on a 16bb stack. what happens if the flop came Q83? if your ever x/f or even worse b/f on those flops you'r burning money

Thanks for your reply. For the sake of learning, if it were the exact same circumstances and hero had 100bb to villains 200bb, how should it have been bet after the flop?

Yeah I don't think we should develop non all in 3bet ranges at these stack depths. Shove or fold pre.

Shove pre.

As played I would have checked flop, hoping to induce turn bet.

With 100bb I would probably 3bet pre a little bigger based on villian description, and would bet 1/2 half on flop.

And if a K or Q hits the turn and was checked to you?

Thanks for your replies.

Yeah I agree with the fold pre or shove replies. Sometime I do the same thing you did in the heat of the moment and 3bet because I think I am supposed to but 16 bb is too short to be flatting here.
Is 3betting worse than flatting here?

Thanks for the reply, homeboy. BUT if we have 100 Bb and the turn comes Q or K and is checked to us. What then? Judge whether to bet on what we know of this player?
