Vilain is an idiot with J on board vs so many opponents and 1 making a pot bet after prior flop action. I mean give me a break with those 9s , what audacity really! At the same time of course i am folding 77 with this stack when raised to 120 preflop and others still left to act. By just calling it i create a big pot that can be made all in by someone much better than 77 or even an AK or who cares anything really that i am coin flip against typically or 20-80 at worse, really no upisde as all in . Or it can be called by 3-4 and then if i dont hit a set i lose significant fraction of stack because i cant bluff more than 1 as well with so many overcards likely. Actually putting 120 on 77 is not so bad vs many as long as you are one of the last to act with the pot getting that big and very likely it wont be raised. You basically get a set 11-12% of the time and you can double up or more vs so many so its probably going to return if it hits . The problem is that you do not always win in this case (flush draws straights, higher sets etc) and typically you wil be against one opponent if you get that lucky that will give you action rarely 2 as all in . I think you need to be able to secure a pot 24 times the preflop entry price in order to counter all those nasty things that can happen in general as a cash game. In tournament its tougher even since you cant reload. Given the fact that not always you manage to get to 24 times the preflop bet since its already that big with respect to the stacks of the people involved it becomes a marginal high volatility play at best .Not bad though just risky with no clear upside (also due to not knowing if anyone after you will reraise) . Still its risky because of others left to act mainly . I probably fold it preflop after that raise.

The vilain is so badly an idiot that i cannot finish cursing at him for another 5 minutes after being eliminated this way (if it was me). I mean think about it. The hero bets 400 on a 480 pot with 730 left. Give me a break , who bets like that without being prepared for all in to begin with. Only someone that feels its fine to end up with all the stack there. This means overpairs or J or set or pair and flush draw and given the cards at flop it probably is a JX or a set or 2 overcards and flush, or a pair above J (maybe QQ) , sometimes 1010 (2p not likely due to low cards) . Really it cant be bluff vs so many at the flop . So the average range the 99 is against is so much better , plus its not clear the others that checked are folding either. Something worth noting even if the 99 is against only a flush draw with overcards its below 50%!!! So what exactly is he expecting that 400 bet to be ? Is it possible one played a hand like A7or A3 after such raise preflop and is betting second pair vs 3 here? Unrealistic behavior. Really unacceptable. Too bad he got lucky.
