So ... it's been a long while since I got to play live and it is very different than online. I think you really need to play much more exploitively (at least at this buy in), and learn your opponents well. Anyhow, William Hung has just moved to our table ... he is the "She Bang" guy from AGT and the guy across the table is just grilling him on his mindset doing AGT. William been here an orbit and hasn't played a hand -- at this point I don't have any info on how William plays). I have just won the last two pots uncontested. There are 20 players left and 14 make it to day two and are in the $.

OTTH

Blinds are $2k/$3k/$3k with a big blind ante. I open from CO with AJo for $7k with about an average stack of about $95k. William Hung is on the button and takes a long time looking at his cards, my chip stack and his own (around $60k). He asks me for my chip count and I move my big chips slightly forward. William then thinks a little more and announces all in.

Me? (Note, I have played 3 tournaments while in Vegas -- making near bubble runs in the first two, and not getting AA once, and KK only once taking it down with a pf open).

I would think this is a fold given its William Hung and he's prob nitting it up.

Bad read. He's from American Idol.

What are the stacks in SB and BB? Might be a good open-jam spot. Given the ICM situation, and how tight live players are, it's probably okay to fold. Although, I don't think I would find a fold.

53,000 for you to call. If you call, pot will be 128,000. 53,000/128,000 = ~41.41%.

Not sure how he plays, but you have to find a fairly loose 3! shoving range for him for this to be even close a breakeven call.

Against AQs+, AQo+, KQs, 99+, you are 32.97%.

Against ATs+, AQo+, KQs, 99+, you are 35.82%.

Against AQs+, AQo+, KQs, 77+, you are 35.46%.

Against ATs+, AQo+, KQs, 77+, you are 37.72%.

Edit:

Hell even against ATs+, AQo+, KJs, 22+, you are 41.11%.

Think this is a clear fold unless you know he's shoving a super wide range here.

Yes, my bad ... he was from American Idol. SB was the 2nd biggest stack at the table, maybe $160k. BB was around my stack. Didn't consider open jamming, and probably not worth it given the chip stacks.

I think these ranges are pretty realistic for this live game, but looser online at these stack sizes. I think we are seeing a lot of Axs, AT+, KJ, 55+ online here.

Nevertheless:

Spoiler:
I did fold and regretted it later. As I saw William run this move on openers a little too much. I opened two more pots AJs and 88 and had to surrender on flop -- x/r all in on super dry flop I missed, but c-bet against medium stack I covered, and three over flop with caller behind. Shoved with 11 bbs with KT and William snapped me with A7o, and held. Finished in 17.

What is your stack? You mentioned his and the average, but not your own.

Sorry my writing was ambiguous. When I wrote " I open from CO with AJo for $7k with about an average stack of about $95k," I meant that to mean I had $95k, and it was around an average stack.

I ran your hand in ICMizer using some random online MTT for the payout structure. He is supposed to be jamming 13% of hands, and AJo is the top of your folding range. AQo is a call, and AJs is an almost breakeven call, which mean, its completely fine to not make it and look for spots with more edge. So unless you had a read, he is jamming wider than 13% of hands, its a fold. For the record a 13% rejamming range contain plenty of bluffs including all the suited broadways, suited wheel aces, most small pairs and even QJo. So its not like, the equilibrium is a particularly nitty range, and most live players probably dont even rejam this wide. Or at least that would be my assumption from, what I have seen from streamed low stakes live MTTs. So if anything I would adjust by calling tighter not wider against an unknown opponent like this. Yes you knew him from TV, but that gives no information about, how he play poker.

without any info on how he plays. I think this is a fold. It's a very marginal spot that is high variance if you are going to call here.

Think this is a fold unless you think it’s super wide but I doubt it live. Feel his range will include a lot of mid to low pps though- tough though bc it’s lame when we run into AQ+ and jj.

I would min open here. I know it’s not a big deal but at 40bb or less, I’m min opening always- nice to save that 1k to a jam in spot like this (this is going to be lold at) but I like keeping pots small in say open spots Vs bb defends or sb calls as we can effectively cbet slightly smaller and risk less of our stack. This is nit picky though and not a big deal. I just think 6k effectively accomplished the same as 7k so why not go smaller and have more for post flop play.
