Hello everyone, long time, first time etc. Here's one I went through and wondering for more input

Full Tilt Poker $9,500 KO Guarantee No Limit Hold'em Tournament - t15/t30 Blinds - 9 players

MP1: t1660
Hero (MP2): t1875
CO: t1440
BTN: t2250
SB: t2450
BB: t2080

Pre Flop: Hero is MP2 with J J
UTG calls t30, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls t30, MP1 calls t30, Hero raises to t120, 4 folds, UTG calls t90, UTG+2 calls t90, MP1 calls t90

Flop: (t525) 8 6 3 (4 players)
UTG checks, UTG+2 bets t30, MP1 raises to t300, Hero calls t300, UTG folds, UTG+2 folds

Turn: (t1155) Q (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero checks

River: (t1155) A (2 players)
MP1 bets t1240 all in, Hero ???

I think my preflop raise should have been more. I'm pretty sure this is a set? OPRd villain midhand at 27% ITM and 9% ROI

Am I too scared, is this a set or monster draw? What should I have done on the turn - bet / fold? I think Villain loves that Ace on the turn and is ready for a CR...

Sorry if this is a no brainer, sling any insults you wish, willing to take the heat to improve.

Cheers.

He's got the flush.

Absolutely raise more pre. Once he checks the turn he basically tells you he has the flush draw. Your flop call looks like a possible flush draw, so he wouldn't let you in for free if he had a set. I'd bet him off on the turn. If you're checking the turn, be prepared to fold this river.

Er, that should read Queen on the turn, not Ace...

When villan bets the flop you should almost definately push since your hand as an overpair is strongest now & you should be trying to get value while trying to protect it at the same time.

On the turn you check behind letting the flush draw/overcards in for free which is a major mistake in my opinion, this pot is getting big & a draw is on so you should be taking it down/charging the maximum to draw asap. You shouldnt really be afraid of a Q here as it doesnt fit in with any hand villan might have unless its QXc which isnt very likely.

On the river I fold, all flush draws have now completed.. AX's that bet out on the flop to steal have now been given the free draw to make top pair.

Push the flop. This guy didn't raise or re-raise before the flop, which tells me he almost certainly doesn't have QQ/KK/AA. He may have a set, but it's unlikely and I doubt he would've bet the flop so big if he did. Lots of people slow play sets, even with a flush draw on the board.

When he bets into me on the flop and my overpair looks good, I'm pushing. You'll probably take the pot right there and you're ahead of almost anything he might call you with.
