Although I fully agree your attitude and approach, you still have to realize that the rule's standard of a "reasonable amount of time" is very different for different types of players. I think it's important not to make amateurs feel like they are rushed or pressured, just like it's important to force Men the Master to act more quickly when it's his time to fold AQ preflop vs three raises and he feels like pondering the decision for six minutes.
So, for the most part, I only call a clock on habitual stallers, over-thinkers and Hollywooders. In big hands where I can tell the player is just stuck in his own thought process, I'll usually set some arbitrary 2-3 minute mark on the stopwatch and call the clock then.
The best solutions is Speed Poker, and it'd be great if that became the standard--something like 30 seconds to act per decision with a 2-5 minute time bank per tournament.
