Downswings? Downswings?

11-23-2011 , 07:37 PM
Just a couple of questions:

- Since losing how many buyins is it considered to be a downswing?

- Are downswings stronger depending on how many players per sng you are playing? (9man/180man, etc.)

- How can i know if im just running bad or if my own leaks are the ones making me lose soo much money? (i play 18man and red line is useless)

- Does anyone have a good method for not letting it affect you? (I am right now on a 35 bi downswing and i dont feel like grinding anymore, my stomach hurts and i feel mentally crushed)

Thanks for the replies in advance!

-Totally random number tbh, for some formats a 50BI downswing is rare-ish for others it's just another Sunday.

-Less % of field paid/more % of prize pool at top places=more variance=bigger downswings. So generally more people playing results in bigger downswings. 50BI downswings in 180 mans as an example are pretty much completely standard.

-Honestly my advice would be is make sure you're playing as optimal as possible and don't worry about the rest.

-First of all 35BI downswing in 18mans is totally standard (don't think there is a format left where it would be considered rare). Take a break if you need to or drop your volume for a while, but if you can't deal with **** like that get out now. It won't be your worst downswing, expect to hit the magic 50BI downswing one day and if you're really lucky expect to hit a tripple digits one magical day . Other general tips are have solid BRM strategy ready for when things get out of hand, don't watch all ins, force yourself to be in a good mood before you start a session,...

good method? good bankroll management.
At 18 mans i had 100bi 'losing periods every couple of week @ 5+% roi.

for couple years i try to play games where red line works and i consider
50+ BI below ev running bad
100+ BI below ev downswing
150+ BI below ev doomswitch

----
above apply only to short period of time/small sample sizes, cose i dont consider running 100-200 bi under ev in a year a downswing/doomswitch cose got used to it

Wow guess i was crying for nothing.

I am playing the 3.5 18 man turbos now, had a meh 5% ROI at 1500 sngs until ds came, that kind of killed my mood but i guess i should just man up.

I have around 160 buyins left so im on the nit br management side right now lol, thanks again guys!

Downswings are inevitable, I am currently in one Most important thing is to do more study e.g. SNGWIZ (fun, fun, fun) to ensure that you are infact playing optimally. OP the fact that you only have a 5% ROI suggests that you probably have a number of leaks in your game.

35 buyin downswing is nothing. Totally standard. Be prepared for much worse!

Considerung you're still a beginner, they're going to be much worse/bigger than "standard" downswings.

Can -20% ROI over 300 games be caused by downswing/variance or does it mean I'm a losing player?

I´m roi 4 player after about 10 k ongame sngs and I have about -100 bin downswing atm in 5 max turbos.

I had a 150 one, luckily I was partially backed . 1/2 of my volume was 180s though back then, so it was pretty standard .

Maybe to make a rough assumption on your true longterm ROI,but not to know if you're winning or losing.
I agree maybe 1K games was a little low,but 5K games is a little off as well IMO.
Obv depends on the kind of game as well.

35 bi donwsing for 18mans is very common

does a downswing mean without one cash ? or are you talking about games gone with out winning the whole tourney?
12-02-2011 , 02:57 AM
You need to man up or stop playing 18-mans because 35 buy-ins is nothing. It just happens unfortunately.
