Do I keep Rebuying? Do I keep Rebuying?

So I signed up for a tournament that only two other people were in. The structure of the tournament allows for unlimited re-buys for the first hour. After break there is the option to add-on and then no re-buys after that. The game starts and we are 3-handed.

So I get knocked out with TT versus the villain who limp-called with J6o when the stacks were getting shallow, but not too shallow. So I'm thinking, cool this is a good game I should re-buy back in. So I do. Then the other guy gets knocked out twice, the second time he didn't buy back in. So it becomes a heads up match with unlimited re-buys for the rest of the hour.

Unfortunately I get knocked out again, and his stack is getting quite large with all the re-buy money. The blinds start getting large and variance is increasing. Every time I get knocked out I re-buy back in and have about a 5-8BB stack. The Villain was folding a large portion of the time so I kept pushing all-in trying to pick up those pots or possibly double up by getting lucky when he calls. Doubling up didn't happen and I kept getting knocked out. His stack kept getting bigger and I kept rebuying, because the prize money in relation to the amount I had to re-buy back in kept getting bigger. My chances of winning were decreasing, but the prize money was just so big that I didn't know whether to keep buying back in or quit.

I ended up rebuying 17 times and purchased one add-on. Somehow intuitively this seems like a mistake, but at the same time I feel like math tells me to keep re-buying back in, because of the odds (that is if I'm doing it right).

So when I'm confronted with a situation like this do I keep re-buying forever? This could definitely escalate into an expensive battle.

3 handed, first knock out leave the tourney not worth playing IMO your only playing 2 other opponents and winning back the money you put in

i usually rebuy 3 times at most , no more no less.

before u enter a tourney just saying to yourself how many times shall i rebuy?

then stick to it.

the rebuy period i see it as FUN poker , dont let it worry you

I play rebuy MTTs like FO, so I BI+1 rebuy+Ad. Rarely I rebuy for another stack, but usually only happens if I get coolered.

Yeah I definitely agree with this. If you get knocked out of a tourney and buy in again then you should be at least 20bb deep IMO. If you are only at 8bbs when you buy in again then you can play perfect and probably still not generate enough ROI to beat the rake.
