Congrats DJK!

Rankings Update: Dan "djk123" Kelly is New #1
By P5s Staff

This week's P5's Rankings update features a new #1 ranked online tournament player in the world, Dan djk123 Kelly. Dan has put up amazing results in 2008, including a victory in the PokerStars Nightly Hundred Grand, two wins in the Stars $100 rebuy, and a 3rd place finish in the Full Tilt Poker $750k Guaranteed. Last week, Dan took down the Stars $45k Guaranteed and the Full Tilt $22k Guaranteed tournaments to put him over the top. Chad M8kingmoves Batista held on to his #1 ranking for almost a year and remains well within striking distance of reclaiming the #1 spot.

As much as we get our 'lol p5s' on in MTTC, this is still a pretty big accomplishment and merits its own thread imo!

Nothing against this guy at all, but I still don't understand why so many people think the ultra high volume guys with good but not great ROIs are so good. Imo the lower volume/higher ROI guys are much much better.

DJK123:

Last 120 days: 11% ROI
2008: 65% ROI
Full Tracking: 44% ROI

I mean, thats certainly not bad...but its certainly not the best online player either imo. Yet I continue to see guys like him, Shaun Deeb, and Chad Batista ranked so highly when their ROIs are good but nothing exceptional.

Again, nothing personal ,and congrats to him on the achievement....I just don't get all the love though.

Djk is highly deserving of the #1 spot. Yeah, he plays a lot (you pretty much have to if you wanna have a shot at a top 10 ranking). However, the more you play, the more you have to win to keep up. If you look at DJK's record, he's won pretty much every tournament there is to win online. He's one of the best (if not the best) big rebuy players online. Last week, he won the same fricking 10r on BACK TO BACK DAYS (vs like 1500 runners each day). And considering his volume, 65% is a pretty damn good ROI. When you consider that his biggest score this year is 50k or so, it shows he's winning consistently and didn't accumulate all his winnings in one mega score. Consistency is a key to success and the kid's got it. Crabs and muffins for all.

50% roi in online tourneys right now over a big sample size is very impressive.

Also, he came out of 2p2 and is a sick player. He's also a cool guy and has made friends with a lot of people here. Why WOULDN'T we be extremely happy for him?

Impressive? Somewhat. Best in the world? Not even close. I think 100% ROI is definitely attainable even if you're only playing $100+ buy in tourneys. IF you're playing many others, I think 125% is attainable.

Just saw your edit of "Also, he came out of 2p2 and is a sick player. He's also a cool guy and has made friends with a lot of people here. Why WOULDN'T we be extremely happy for him?"......I totally agree you with you man. Thats why I started and ended my post by saying that my rant was nothing personal and by congratulating him.

Assani Fisher, kindly stfu

you play pretty medicore/bad and have run infinitely above expectation over your tournament sample

who the **** are you to say ANYTHING about djk

especially in a thread that was made with the sole intention of congratulating him

if you don't think he deserves to be congratulated or if you don't "get the love", keep it to yourself

You pretty much need to win the Sunday Million -- while maintaining the consistent results of a player like Djk or Shaundeeb -- or something to maintain such a huge ROI playing 20k of buyins/week. Most players are never going to win the SM, the FTOPS ME, etc. That's a product of variance. Is 100% roi possible these days? Sure. Is it probable? Not really.

To look at an example, lets compare Jamie Gold and Djk. Jamie Gold won the biggest tournament in poker history. He will likely have way over a 100% roi for the rest of his life. So I ask you, who would you rather back: Jamie Gold or Djk?

Are you the same sort of person who thinks that casual fans have no right to comment on which pro athletes are the best since the casual fans aren't as good as them?

I have no clue if I'm as good as him or not...nor was my post about me in any way. However, regardless of that I think I'm qualified to give my opinion on who the best players are, so I'm completely not understanding your point.

As I said, I went out of my way to congratulate him and let it be known that my comments weren't meant as a personal attack. I still don't see why you feel as if its out of line for me to ask why we seem to value high volume/lower ROI over lower volume/higher ROI. It was just my opinion. If its wrong, then feel free to explain why you feel as if higher volume/lower ROI is better.

k my post was a little out of line

I take it back. It just seemed like AF was taking a shot at some people in a pretty shady/backhanded way. I was probably wrong.

Let me just say it again: Congrats man. #1 ranking in the entire world is pretty ****ing awesome, and you should be proud.

My commentaries were soley questioning the methodology of our ranking systems, not bashing djk123 whom I've never met and have nothing personal against whatsoever.

assani, you think the player with thebest ROI over whatever sample size they have should be #1?

Should Halfrek lock up #1 for the year?

also, DJK's FTP stats are all >70% ROI for 120 days 2008 and lifetime. granted over like 1/10th the sample of his stars (which, 44% ROI over 3500 tourneys is def impressive)

There is pretty much NO ONE with >100% ROI's with the kind of samples that DJK Shaun and Chad have.

djk def deserves the recognition imo, congrats.
