Are charity MTTs +EV? Are charity MTTs +EV?

Charity tourney, i.e. a % of the prize pool is donated.

assume 80% of the pool is kept for the players and 10% of players cash.

1) is this +EV for anyone?
2) does the payout distribution matter?
3) if (1) is yes, what would you say is the inflection point at which the tournament becomes profitable for very few players.

thanks.

i dunno, anytime i've played a charity tourney the top 2 or 3 finishers have ended up donating 50% of their winnings on top of whatever was deducted from the prizepool. basically, charity tournies are a fun way to raise money, not a good way to make money.

the competition is always pathetic because the low stakes and high rake drives anybody who can make money playing poker to play anything else in town.

the final table is always scared money. always wanting to pay the bubble boy, always wanting to chop asap.

these factors must be considered

if your roi (pre rake) is >20% then it's profitable, if your roi is <20% it is not profitable

Soft as hell and you can help raise money for a good cause. +EV imo. Don't expect to make too much long run though, just do them more to have fun.
