New to poker and want to get into MTT's, what is the recommended training site, free website, youtube channel, or twitch streamer for learning? Money is not the biggest issue but cheaper is probably better.

Gripsed poker training is a good place to start. Type gripsed into YouTube and you'll find plenty of content there, he is good for beginners IMO.

The cheapest you can find is free. If you are new to poker you do not need to pay to learn or play. There are an incredible amount of good places to learn math, strategies, basic psychology and even advanced poker and most are free. My advice is to build your bankroll by playing. The first challenge of any poker player should be to get it without paying. Fortunately it is not. Take it as a religion. Your first article of faith has to be: never take money out of my pocket to play or learn while not a winner. Reinvest benefits

Can you provide any sites or names of resources that you have found to be most helpful?

Also, where does everyone recommend to start or focus on in ones studies? How do you build a strong foundation for a beginner.

I think the best investment you do is buy a a software that track your hands and start posting at two+two. At least that helped my game tremendously. Also analyze your own hands when you are done with a session, it normally takes me an hour but its the best investment.

I would also start to watch twitch and this my suggestion: jcarver, tonkaaaap and Staples

Youtube is always nice, I personally like Doug Polk in general for poker, but its probably a lot of other guys that is more focused on MTT then him.

HustlerMert... Yes, completely, a software that track your hands is the first and most important investment that can make a player.

BanKer318... Each student has to develop his own method of study; I think that's the best way. I remember that at the beginning I started with a few free basic courses at the PS poker school. I had never played poker before so everything sounded weird... odds, outs, bankroll, pot control, showdown. There were a lot of terms, concepts, really basic strategies that I had to assimilate before I realized what was the next step I wanted to give. Play a lot, all that you can; Do not miss a freeroll. If I suddenly read something in a forum about something called Cold Call... I ran to look for detailed information about what that was. Visit poker forums. I think it is important not to accept as definitive the first definition you find, if not read as many references as you find useful, without haste; It is imperative to get an accurate idea of what something is to be able to use it later in all its dimension. That's why I would not highlight one web above others. In fact, most of the sites that I have extracted information from I do not know what they are called, or what they are engaged. I ended up reading everything in Thepokerbank, I saw something of Splitsuit, not much because it still costs me to understand well the Videos in English. A lot of material in Catalan and Spanish language. The three "data analysis" videos that the Team PokerStars player LadyMace86 had on her Youtube account, but which are now only accessible to subscribers in Twich... are a delight... they taught me definitely to use a poker tracker... And, well, one day I stumbled across something of Pokey on 2+2, and of course, it all started to get serious, it was another level. The poker classics, Matt Flynn, Ian Taylor... David Sklansky, Harrington; Everything is in the books. And, best of all, a compilation that I found with the most outstanding articles of 2+2, more than seven hundred pages that, sooner or later, every poker fan should read.
Those are some of the things that I think have defined my way of understanding poker.
Anyway poker I take it as a hobby, the highest buy-in I've paid is 1€, because I have the bad habit of making cash out of almost everything I earn so I do not know if someday I'll get to play good tournaments with really interesting prizes. Maybe, but...
...What is valuable is the way you travel, not the goal you reach... Grasshopper... you know

J Little books easy to follow. Read those and watch Kevin Martin Twitch stream to see those concepts in real time. WPT or final table highlight shows is not what you want.

Are you playing online i assume? its the only place to start. Dont start by playing live anywhere. You will never get volume. And volume is the best way to improve.

See lots and lots of hands and being in different situations will get you there the quickest. i like gripsed, but to be honest i feel like twitch will be the most helpful you will find. Find someone playing similar small stakes as you and listen and pay attention to the way they think through hands.

Everyone says free poker is where to start. I disagree. Bet money, but not enough that matters, but could be annoying if you kept losing at poker.

Learning is different than learning and then being able to apply those things that you learned. When you can learn and then apply those things that you learned, it sinks in better.

Focus on playing like .01/.02 online or .05/.1

For starters find some sort of video that gives you a starting hand chart. Thats important. The most common mistake when starting out is that players play far too many hands that should be folded preflop. This will give you some sort of starting point. Then play tight aggressive, and when a video shows you something you can use, then apply it. Good luck man.

Damn. Wrote a freaking ton of information and accidentally deleted it. Repeat only about your preflop range you could start with: 100/number of players left including you = % of top hands you could open raise with. Now download pocker calculator like Equilab and look at those ranges. You could probably go a bit wider with Ax hands and smaller pocket pairs and a bit tighter with Kx, Qx, Jx from those ranges cuz they look like not exactly precise. For calling you can use range that you would have in position of initial raiser and go a bit tighter. You also can 3bet if your hand is strong enough. Could try and 3 bet 30% of hands that you would raise on position of initial raiser. For best understanding of opponent's preflop range, you can download soft that gathers statistic on players so you can watch persantage of their preflop raise. Guys, correct me if im wrong. UPD: when many players are went (calls) and you have a good price for call too (bank is a lot bigger than amount of chips you have to call, like 10-20% of the bank and players still have quite a deep stacks, you can call with many hand. Especially you should call with Ax suited, 54s+, 53s+, 22+ cuz this hands have potential to turn into very strong hands preflop. When your stack is 15 big blinds or less you should just go all-in.

before even thinking about learning resources it really matters to define your goal in poker. It's one thing if you want to play for entertaiment and it's completelty different path if u want to play for living.
