What do you recommend are the best books for MTT strategy? Is HOH for Tournaments still relevant for todays structures and strategies? The game has changed quite a bit since they were written. I appreciate in advanced your opinions on whats available.

Fooled by Randomness is the only book about poker that is still relevant as far as tournaments go.

Fooled by Randomness is also very good, although it's not a poker book.

Harrington is still a solid base too imo.

Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand At A Time, Vols. 1 and 2.

I had occasional issues with some of Pearljammer's and Rizen's advice, but apestyles absolutely nails it.

Have heard "Poker Tournament Formula" (Arnold Snyder) eesagooda, ordered my copy the other day.

Good topic, I need more tips for winter reading.

Just bought it, can't wait til it arrives. Thanks!

And I second (or third) the opinions about Kill Everyone. EXCELLENT book about mid- and end- games for MTTs/STTs, specifically push/fold ranges.

I don't see how Kill Everyone will get seriously outdated. It can be improved, but some of the calculations, like the NE shoving ranges I don't think can be.

very true... I think its a good combo to read "Kill Everyone" (Or Kill Elky) for math and general theory adding to that the practice of "Winning tournaments one hand at a time".

Other than that just lurk into HSMTT...
and play...

Not at all. I wouldn't even recommend reading kill phil if you are a competent player, but kill everyone def has valuable information for almost any good mtt player.

I dunno, I thought Kill Everyone was fairly weak except for the equilibrium charts/bubble factor discussion, which I guess makes it worth the price alone.

EDIT: If you have no clue how to play poker, HOH is still a solid read.

Apestyles' section of Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a time 1 & 2. The other sections are good but apestyles is a cut above with regards to detailed thought processes and the math behind his decisions.

Fooled By Randomness, The Black Swan and The Drunkards Walk are mandatory reading as well. Its corny but Fooled By Randomness changed my life, or at least the way I think about life.

Yeah, the rest of it is pretty weak but its treatment of ICM effects and shoving is top notch and definitely worth it.

Harrington is a good basis for solid tourney strategy. The basic concept of widening your range when you are down into the yellow zone or below is invaluable. He gives very good advice for early tournament strategy that will help get you to the later stages.

I have read Arnold Snyder and I'm not a big fan. There is a lot of strategy that is completely ridiculous. Comparing tournament poker to Rock-Paper-Scissor is overly simplistic and impractical. Suggesting that you should raise any two cards on the button is a sure way to doom your chip stack.

+1 to Fooled and Black Swan, both well worth the read.

HOH for the basics if you have not played, or only watched poker on TV.
