I'm definitely not looking to go broke with AK before 25/50. I'll raise when first in, and continuation bet to one caller, and I'll call a raise with it...but that's as far as I'm going until it actually makes a hand.
If I'm first in, I raise only 3x BB because I want the pot small so my cbet doesn't have to be too big if I miss. If I get multiple callers, I don't cbet.
If I get one or more limpers in front of me, I only bet 4X the BB with it. Some espouse, adding one multiple to 3 for every limper but I don't want to get too committed to AK this early in the tourney.
If someone raises in front of me and i know this guy is usually fos. I'll come over the top, but otherwise just call and see what the flop brings.
Toro - thx for ur interesting comments - I agree to keeping the cbet low..AK can be difficult if you are playing tight and trying to conserve your chips..
At the low stakes I play at, I usually raise 4xbb+1bb/limp when the blinds are 10/20 and 15/30. Since most players that I play with are unable to fold hands like TPWK, I'm often playing AK to simply hit my ace or king and stack them off with a weaker kicker. Once the blinds reach 25/50 I'm only raising 3xbb+1bb/limp.
As for getting raised, I'm probably just calling to see a flop. If I miss and they make a relatively big c-bet I might just let it go right there, and might try to take it away with a decent sized c-bet if they check to me.
