At the final table of a $70 freezeout. Down to 4 handed. Pay outs fwiw are
1st - 890 2nd - 480 3rd- 265 4th - 180
Most chip stacks are similar. I am second in chips. Villain is the short stack marginally.

Hero is on the BB with K 3 (190,000 chips)

Blinds 3/6,000 with a 1,000 ante

UTG raises to 15,000 (170,000 chips)
Notes on villain: Mid fifties reg. Would describe him as aggressive but relatively straight forward in his approach to the game. Capable of mixing it up and bluffing.

Pre flop action: Button and SB pass. Hero is getting just over 3:1 on a call and decides to call.

Flop (37,000 pot) A 5 4
Hero checks, villain bets 20,000. Hero has picked up a gutshot and back door flush draw. Hero calls.

Turn (77,000) 5
Hero checks, villain checks.

River 8
Hero checks, villain bets 35,000 (100,000 behind)
Hero tanks and jams.

Reasoning -
1) To me, villain's river bet made very little sense. I felt that he had very few flushes and almost no 5's in his range. In my own mind he wasn't opening 65 or 45 which leaves us with just two remaining combos of A5 he can have for his value ranges. Granted he can also have 44,55 and possible 88 on river but I feel his range contains a lot of marginal hands as opposed to value hands.

2) I felt he wouldn't bet an 8 on the river had he paired up on river. I also do not think he is good enough to be value betting 66,77,99, 10s on river.

3) I felt that had he had an Ace he would have more than likely bet turn as I can have called flop with far more than a flush draw or a five ( the only realistic hands that can have him beat if he has an Ace as I am 3- betting any big aces). If he checked back turn for pot control and is now value betting river with Aces and fives with a Q or K kicker having had it checked to him I also feel he would likely find a fold to a river check/shove in that scenario.

Considerations.

1) I could just fold river. I have missed. Villain is showing strength, I can wait for better spots?
2) I could consider calling. Against villains wider opening range, which I anticipate contains a number of combinations of QJ, Q10, J10, 109 I am doing ok. I discounted calling on the basis that I felt too many of his bluffs were Kx that were beating me.

I would appreciate any thoughts on the hand. Do you feel that the river check shove is profitable in the long run? Does it work effectively after turn goes c/c and I then check the river?

Thanks in advance.

as you told u're a bit aggressive one there is many player in the world who make 3/4 bet in flop though he had lil pair or KQ QT TJ s/o . when he check you back again in turn you must made a massive bet in river & yes you can shove.

turn seems like a reasonable card for V to check back with his Ax range
you should be leading river with any value and i'd be immediately suspicious of you c/r as a value line here
shoving river has it's merits

I'd probably like a river lead for ~half pot repping a flush. A never folds but u get some pairs to fold
