villain was new on table, just 3 orbits but he played 27/18. i was pretty card dead and this was my best spot last 2 orbits.

so what range would you call me with if you were villain?

Villains calling range here is wider due to his stack size; had villain been shorter (80-120k) I think he would have to call with a much tighter range.

IMO i think its spewy. What risk it against a newcomer, no read, has 2x your chip stack, your M is 10 but you have over 20 bb's, you could wait for a better spot, although avg was 105k, Im sure you were in the 50% mark in chip stacks. I agree with above where his range to call you could be much wider that if he had a smaller stack. You only get called here with a better hand and when you win you take down the blinds plus 9k, that does nothing substantial to your chip stack with the possibility of getting knocked out and sweating his fold.

I would have waited for a better spot.

well.. of course its spew
but with what range would you call me with here? he played 27/18 thats a solid read that he does not raise/call his whole range here.
furthermore i really was just folding for 2 orbits. he MUST think i have AJ+ 88+ at least.
its 16.5k into a 78k stack and a good spot.

What were some of the details of the tourney? In the money, bubble, etc.?

Your image definitely matters, however, he just got to the table so him image of you couldnt be too intelligent. I have seen situations where guys will make that call with 66+, KQs, Suited A broadways. Depends on the player, his stats indicates that he is loose, however, even donkeys can show up with a hand.

i was ~ 80/180
bubble was like 1hour ago
the payouts dont really matter until the final table where the big money is.

Here's the bottom line: it's very difficult to tell you if this is good or not, because this sort of move is highly dependent on the texture of the table. Part of this, alas, is what is abstractly referred to as "feel" but part of it is also understanding various dynamics. What do we know (if anything) abotu SB and BB, what is our image at this table like, what (if anything) to we know about the CO and his tendencies.

In general, this sort of move is (a) dramatically underused, (b) powerful, and (c) integral to sustained long-term success in multi table tournaments. You simply must be able to resteal, because so many players know enough to steal blinds, but so few know enough to resteal, and so few also know how to deal with it. As such, without having been in your seat to gauge all the various intangibles, I'm fine with this move, if for no other reason than because it's in the right spirit.

The real question is... do you understand how little your hand matters to whether or not this is a good decision?

you mention some really nice points about the feeling in playing poker and table dynamics.

the blinds hat been awfully tight, so i was sure only getting called by AJ+ 99+
of course i did know that 9 high was the worse hand and if called im likely to be a 3-7 or 4-6 dog. but the fact that he did know nearly nothing about my play since i HAD to fold all my hands last two orbits and the fact that he was opening light... somehow... i pulled the trigger knowing this would be a good spot and a nice move in this situation.
i guess if i have a 50k stack i cant make this move, if he has a bigger stack he will prolly call me.
