ITM here on Day 2. About 60 people remain, payout is a min cash. 66 came back to day 2 and I was about 55/60 with 17bbs.

Blinds 10/20k-20k BBA

Hero 320k to start before posting the BB and ante (15bbs)

UTG+1 opens to 50k
Folds around to Hero with AA

Obviously jamming this the large majority of the time. The opener was one of the bigger stacks at the table with over 1M. He is aggressive and opens a decent amount of hands. I played with him on Day 1 and he was active and aggro on that table as well.

Anyways I decided to flat with the plan to check-jam any flop.

Flop JT7 Pot 130k

Hero check
Villain check

Turn 8

Hero check
Villain bet 100k

This has got to be one of the worst possible outcomes after flatting with AA. Can I ever flat preflop AA-KK in this situation or is always a pure jam? At what stack size can we consider flatting (if we are ever flatting)? The fact he is UTG1 makes me think it's just a pure jam at anything less than 20bbs since he's so likely to call. Especially since he made it 2.5x which is big at this stage of the tournament.

Now that we're here this board favors our BB defense range heavily but we have zero fold equity after his turn bet. Should we ever be leading flop or turn? Do we beat anything here as played?

Thanks

What is V opening frequency? If he’s been fairly tight then opens from UTG1 then shove will be called often enough pre.

I think it’s a fairly narrow V range that will fold to a shove pre but then be strong enough to bet and gii post with a one pair hand. It’s more likely that V will get away from hands like AJ+ QQ- that would have called pre but then escape on a bad flop.

So, at 15BB I wouldn’t, but deeper you can mix it in occasionally.

As played in the hand above it’s really gross. I think leading 1BB turn 2BB river will force V to have it.

Flatting is fine Pf
But if you play completely awful postflop then it becomes less attractive

I'm just jamming pre.

Villain will likely call you with many pairs thinking you would do this with many Ax type hands. For the lower PP's Villain may see overcards on the flop and be able to get away from the hand and so you will lose out on a lot of equity. Similarly for SC's.

I would rather flat AA in position after Chip Leader raise so flops don't get checked through and you get decide whether to shove or just call flop.

This is not a good spot to flat AA preflop. I think flatting AA preflop would be good when:

1) This are more players behind you that might re-open the action or shove over you
2) The villain is very loose and aggressive and might hang themselves

Flat in the BB here is very sub optimal. You should raise here. Whether it should be a shove or you are just trying to get more money into the pot is debatable. Like if you raise to 125K, is the villain the kind of player who will call that raise but fold to a shove?

Flatting is much better choice in position.

Flatting our of position is very unappealing to me.

I agree with everyone that this is just a pure jam. No idea why I flatted. Definitely FPS.

As it turns out, he would have called pre and I would have lost (results oriented).

Heh it’s nice when errors work in your favour. Did he actually show better?
