9th hand, villain is 13/13 over 8 hands. I OPRed him on the river and he's got decent results.

River is obviously a blocker bet with the intention of folding, but then I started to think about it and couldn't figure out what he could possibly have for value... hands like 89hh I guess? On the other hand it's hard to imagine what he turned into a bluff.

I am on board with bet fold each street but I think the river should be a little large to remove the illusion that we are bet folding

it looks pretty std and I think you played it well. Giving his line i agree with you that it looks kinda weird and im confused too. I actually dont think calling the river is terrible just because 89h, a weirdly played a8, 87 or 88 are the only hands that he would value raise really and I think he will occasionally turn some made hands into bluffs.

Couldn't he have 77? I can see 77 just calling on the flop and turn to keep AK or c-bettor putting money in the pot.

well what are you getting value from? a 13/13 probably pitches ATo and AJo pre, not many combos left!

edit: 8 hands w/e, still think people pitch them pre mostly and may fold river anyway

If we think he's mostly throwing away ATo and AJo then it becomes really hard to say I shouldn't call his raise on the river, no? What beats us unless he decided to just hold on with 88? Do sets really raise this river?

I don't think I'm getting value from much but the goal is to avoid facing a bigger bet when I check... right? I don't know, maybe I have this hand backwards.

I would check the river for sure and usually call. As played, I would still call. Never ever ever ever use that sizing against a competent player if you plan to fold. Blocking bets were good in 2004. "Blocking bets" that are actually inducers are good in 2011.

this is exactly what i was thinking....block bets have morphed into induce bets and i think it actually changed somewhere around the fall of 2009

i can't figure out what he has either but i would call here as played and if i bet i would bet more but i would check the river and decide
