NJ Geolocation problems since Feb. 1 (remote access device error) NJ Geolocation problems since Feb. 1 (remote access device error)

Is anyone else having a problem since Feb. 1 with an error message from WSOP.com and 888.com that the system cannot verify my NJ location because the system is detecting a remote access device on my computer? According to the site and unhelpful customer support, it's caused by the geolocation service trying to thwart cheats who are using remote access devices to mimic their location in NJ, allowing them to play from non-NJ locations. But, the cure is worse than the disease!

I was advised to disable or remove all remote access programs on my PC and try again - but it didn't work. I even got an old laptop that my son used to use, which never had any VPN software (which is, I think my problem) and wiped all possible remote access software -- and it still didn't work. I think the system is piciing up my FiOS home network and thinking that it's a remote access device.

It can't be just me. And customer service is not helping . . . at all.

Anybody else?

Try your laptop in a different location.

If the different location binks then you know it's something on your laptop.

If that happens, you can post the processes list and I can look at it.

Thanks, Max. I'm leaving for the weekend, but I'll try a different location next week. Could it be my home wifi router? We'll see. thanks.

Good call, Max. I was at the airport on Friday and was able to connect to WSOP.com without any error message about VPN or remote access software from this same PC. So, that suggests that the problem has to do with my home wireless network, rather than some software on this laptop. I've got an email into tech support (I'm not hopeful) Any suggestions about home network settings?

update -- WSOP is no help -- got the same canned response to messages as always. Verizon is only a little better. Turns out that my FiOS router has enabled remote access for some of the connected devices - most notably the DVR, which you can program remotely. It does not appear to be possible to disable the remote access for these devices, and I suspect that something in the new software for geolocation is detecting this remote access on the home network and triggering the bar to access. i think I'm screwed.

Well -- credit to WSOP.com on this one. I actually got a phone call from a tech, who asked me some questions, then called back later for follow-up, and then called back today to tell me that the problem was solved. He could not explain to me exactly what happened/changed, but they probably worked out something with Verizon to filter out whatever proxy server was running on their network. In any case, they gave me a $25 credit on my bankroll and the issue has been resolved.

For a change, WSOP customer service came through.
