Turned set no good? Turned set no good?

10-13-2009 , 03:43 AM
Villain - 34/25/2.00 over 200 hands

Can I fold my set on the river? The pot is not that big and I can't put him on anything I can beat here. I think a missed FD he would've played more aggressively on the flop. The way the hand played I could easily have an A, but he still donks the river.

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BTN with T T
2 folds, CO calls, Hero raises, 1 fold, BB calls, 1 fold

Flop: (5.5 SB) K J Q (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

Turn: (3.75 BB) T (2 players)
BB checks, Hero bets, BB calls

River: (5.75 BB) 3 (2 players)
BB bets, Hero?

I'd probably make a wtf call just because he played it so strangely. I don't think an ace is likely because he didn't raise the turn. I think a lot of bad players play a 9 or two pair this way, and I think he has two pair often enough to make calling profitable.

Dont fold! I doubt a 34/25/2.0 can ever have an A here after the turn action. This is a 9x, KT, K3, QT, JT type of hand scared that you may check behind the river. You beat a good part of this range.

I do cry call.

This is often some kind of two pairs that bet to avoid a free SD.
A raise is not appropriate as you won't get called by worse.

I don't think this is a crying call, but just a regular call. Based on the turn action, I don't expect to lose very often. Villan is vaulebetting something like 2 pairs / tp hand imo.

In these days of waiting until the river, I don't make too much of Villain's lack of a turn raise. I mean, on a board like this one in particular, what great options does a BB with an A have on the turn? If Hero is betting, it's often either because Hero has an A or because Hero has some one-pair hand or a bluff that he's willing to bet-fold.

And then there's the possibility of a 9 for BB too. So I think you frequently get shown the best hand. Still, I think that at these odds a river call should pretty easily be profitable.

on super obvious boards like this one, some TAGs and LAGTAGs these days are refusing to raise turn and instead opting to induce WTF-calls on the river

so I give them that WTF-call anyway cuz you see all sorts of 2 pairs here enough to make a call getting 6.75-to-1 worth it

if you cant call a river donk you should probably be checking behind on the turn

Definitely calling a donk here. I'd probably also call a check raise.

calling a river c/r is bad, calling a turn c/r is a no brainer

Do you call a river bet after a turn c/r?
