SB: 34.5/9/1.25 - 1k hands

Pre Flop: Hero is BTN with Q T
1 fold, MP calls, 1 fold, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls, MP calls

Flop: (8 SB) A 8 Q (4 players)
SB checks, BB bets, MP folds, HERO?

I guest many hands SB cold call at PF now will have GS or pair.
So even that my hand can be behind I should raise to protect my hand, right?

If flop would be A 7 Q does it change our decision from raise to call?

i think BB probably has a Flushdraw, i would reraise for protection. See what he does on the turn. Whether he keeps on betting or not. If I were BB and flopped an Ace, I would go for a checkraise. Anyhow if the board doesnt get worse, I would just call down, if he keeps betting and take a note...costy, but u have a better idea next time.

How about just calling the flop and evaluate on turn? Pre flop indicates loose passives which wont fold the flop after they put one bet in and often they guy who should three bet just wont do it. Also loads of players limp or call any ace so there is really not that much to protect if possible

If BB has a low flush draw isn't it very likely that he will just call making sure the other players stay in, if he's got the ace he will happily reraise either way I don't see that the flop raise doing anything but hurting us so I don't like it.

Grunch:

This is a very frequent and problematic spot for me. I find myself in this situation all the time not knowing what to do.

In this case we have a strong hand in middle pair with backdoor flush and straight draws.

I don't think you get much out of raising. You are not afraid of any overcards on the turn since the Ace is already out and a K gives you a gutshot to the nuts

If a heart comes on the turn you have a draw to the virtual nuts.

A 9 is also a good card.

I don't think you can, nor need to protect your hand here. Just call and re-evaluate on the turn.

There really are not many turn cards that you can fold though. You can't fold a heart, King, or brick, so you will likely have to see a river and decide if you are going to call or not.

If Kh comes on the turn, and the river bricks off, you can probably fold.

*grunch*

I just call and re-evaluate on the turn.
