Glad to see some new names inthere again this month

The blacklist is still growing unfortunately but I'm thinking of changing things a bit for the coming swaps so let's see. Any ideas on how to improve are highly appreciated.

Since there now is a good mix of people who have never done this before and people who have done this a lot of times it was suggested that I post an example of what a good review contains. A good review is NOT a ton of one-liners, it is thoughtful analysis of any interesting hands in the sample you receive. Neither of you learn anything from a comment stating "fold preflop", you should state why and back up your opinion with solid arguments and/or math.

Here's a good way to go about reviewing the hands:
Quote:
Just to let you know how I go about these reviews. I like to review the first orbit or so to get a feeling for the table and the opposition. I am not only concentrating on the hands you played but also looking for hands opponents have showdown so I can try and characterize their play. As the session progresses I start skipping hands of less interest and concentrate on the ones you played or ones which present a good situation to note another players moves. If I skipped a hand you played it means I agreed with your play and have nothing to add (except maybe NH!). Regarding the hands you play be aware I am reviewing them without looking at the known hole cards and my review is written at each stage of the hand without knowing how the rest of the hand has played out yet so it’s as if I am in “your shoes”. So let’s begin.
Here is what I think is a decent amount of comments on a single hand, please note that I have no idea whether the comments are correct or way way off, I just quickly skimmed the review and found a hand with a decent amount of thought put into the review:
Quote:
Preflop: with an open limper in front I would raise here and try and get this HU. We are also buying ourselves some folding equity as we may win the pot UI by c-betting the flop.

Flop: we flop MPMK, pot is small, we are OOP, I c/f here. Why the bet?

Turn: 2 callers and looking at the board and past history they could have a Queen, Jack, Flush or straight draw and maybe just an Ace. We now pick up a GSSD but that card actually makes our 2-pair outs tainted. So 8’s maybe no good (let’s say we have 1). We have 3 more outs to trips and 4 T’s for a straight though the Tc maybe tainted too. So we have 6-7 outs probably if behind. Pot is still small though (3BB). This is why I like c/f the flop in small pots. Too much trouble with a medium strength hand OOP. If we check we won’t have enough odds to call so I go with our flop line and bet again. You went for the check so now I would fold.

River: you are getting 8 to 1 on a river call and you are over calling here. HU I might call but I don’t think you beat both villains more than 1 in 8 so I fold. I think you misplayed this hand on every street. You let yourself get dragged in to losing too much money on medium hand in a small pot that really didn’t need protecting. These are spots you need to fold even if you find out in the end you folded the best hand. It’s just not worthwhile. Btw, note Lera’s play not raising TP on the flop OR the turn and just calling down with 2-pair. This was either MUBS from a straight or a really bad slowplay.
And, it's always nice to end your review with a summary, like this for example:
Quote:
Summary
Overall I think you have a good basic TAG strategy. You have a good preflop starting hand basis and you are aware of position. Postflop I have 2 major comments on your play:
1. I don’t think you c-bet enough. There were a few spots I thought you could have c-bet which you passed on, especially HU and with the KK’s on the Ace high board.
2. You sometimes take weird turn donk lines I really don’t understand. As far as I can see all they do is open you up to get owned by better hands and loose value from worse ones. I would be happy to hear your reasoning behind them.

Hope this was helpful. In any case, best of luck.

The above posters won't be able to participate in the hand swaps until they have handed in the reviews they didn't do.

Well, this one's long...

You should be in contact with your partner prior to the 12th of March. If you're having difficulty please write me, and I'll see if I can help out. All reviews should be completed by the 26th of March.

I would strongly encourage all participants to do a follow up discussion of the review, this is where you really learn something IMO. You'll only get out what you put in. Learn something.

As always, if you have any comments or suggestions please do not hesitate to write me. I want people to take as much away from this as possible.
