A Turn raise?
09-06-2007 , 12:13 AM
turn raise is no good because we have to call a 3bet
without a read you played it fine imo
09-06-2007 , 12:15 AM
why do we have to call a 3bet? Pretty clear sign we're in trouble. Not a lot to bluff at in that board

I suppose not raising lets us lose the min when behind, nad he may continue to barrel off while behind, A turn raise probably nets us nothing extra because he'll bail when hes got nadda

turned a gutshot
likely 6 outs to improve getting around 9.5:1

What about Pf? Do we like just calling here over capping? We have position on him. If we cap and he still bets into us on a safe flop its safe to assume he's got a better hand. Is going in call-down really the most profitable?

3.5BB PF

1BB turn
5.5:1?

when he 3bets our turn raise we're getting 9.5:1 so we have to call

sry I should make my replies more clear

hey look at that. I ask a question, you answered it, and then I forgot I'd asked it. What about a PF cap?
09-06-2007 , 12:40 AM
cap is bad imo

a reraise from the BB is usually a strong hand, we don't have an equity edge vs the top 10% of hands

also by letting him keep the lead we can use our positional advantage to play well postflop

I like to cap it preflop against some opponents depends alot on what we think his range is and if he's gonna get spazzy post flop but with no reads id just call

why arent we rasing the flop ?? I dont think our hand is strong enough to wait for the turn
09-06-2007 , 12:41 AM
we decided only newbs and donks raise the turn :-)

Post flop:

I like a raise on the turn followed by a bet on the river. And if 3bet, calling it and folding UI to a river bet. While it's true 6 outs will rarely fold, better hands never will and you will almost always get another bb on the river should you just call the turn, I still raise because you will get paid off by a lower pp, stupid hands like A7 and occassionally AK and AQ. I think you are ahead most of the time here on the turn, can safely avoid a SD to further action and can value bet most rivers. If you get donked on the river than you use your reads.
09-06-2007 , 12:52 AM
on the flop we don't have a very big equity edge over a reasonable 3bet range, and the only hands that will fold are the ones drawing to 2 outs

vs an unknown villain I don't want to deal with a 3bet so I just call down UI

if I can trust villain, ie feel ok folding to a turn 3bet, I think calling the flop and raising a brick turn is good. villain will probably incorrectly fold a lot of overcard hands, and even if he doesn't we get some value especially from hands that may not pay us off on the river

and vb river if called on the turn

We open raised in the cut off I think alot of players are re raising us in the BB with a wider range than top 10%

But I do agree that without any such reads capping is a bad idea

cant fold to 3-bet vs anyone.
09-06-2007 , 12:55 AM
miles, you mean on this turn or on say the 2

I was referring to a total brick. we def can't fold on this one
09-06-2007 , 12:57 AM
sorry - on the turn. we have a gutshot to basicarry the nuts.

I suppose just calling down is best against an unknown even if just for variance sake. But I also say that at 2/4 an unknown will call down with a worse hand 10-15 times more often than unknown will 3bet/lead with a worse one.
