bvb value check? bvb value check?

01-08-2010 , 03:05 PM
OK I know value checking is out of vogue on this forum these days. The situation here is a blind battle against a 56/11 who freaks out postflop, c/r's air and seems to always bets when induced. Is this a good spot for a value check? I figure pot is small, my opponent is bad enough to fall for it and I would hate getting c/r'd. Good spot? or giving out free cards= bad?

i don't think you should give a free card, we have a pair and it's BvB, i b/call-down turn.

dunno if I raise pf

if you think the guy freaks out post flop, then I would just chk pf.

the reason to raise T6o pf in blind battle is to take initiative and foldEq. if the guy don't give you any respect to your pf raise, then I don't raise pf with hands like T6o but raise more with hands with SDvalue.

as play, i think you can either bet or chk turn. i would decide based on recent history vs this guy.

-if I think if he raise turn with ATC, then I bet and call down
-if I think if I think his majority of his raise range include pair (prob better than yours) or good draw, but agro enough to bet river if you chk the turn, then I chk

i think these are reasonable line, your thought?

yeah.. about pf, if you know he's kind of aggro postflop, it's better to keep the pot small then to make the pot larger and make his aggro play more 'correct'

I think its fine given your read. I don't know what his flop peeling range is but your hand shouldn't be all that great on this board. You've also got a draw so getting check raised is going to put you in a really crappy spot. The pot is small, he's either folding something that isn't that big of a threat, or he's calling or raising a hand that beats yours.

In general I would like a v-check here because we are likely to get c/r on this flop and with 3 overs it is hard to know wether we are ahead or not. But given the read that he would have propably c/r any pair and some gutters on the flop our hand is likely to be good on the turn and we can afford to take the heat.
I get the feeling that both plays are equally viable with b/c beeing the higher variance play.

I like a value check for the reasons you mentioned. It would really suck to get c/red and I'd like to see a showdown. It doesn't cost much to give free cards in this small ass pot either. But I only check if he is aggro, if he is unlikely to c/r a lot then I'm barreling off.

Pre-flop: The reason to raise a hand like this is to build a big pot that we will win more than 50% of the time in position and run him over. I don't think this is the right opponent. His tendency to spaz out and fight back is an asset when we have garbage.

Turn: Bet to provoke said spazout or make him fold outs. It's probably close tho. If I knew he bet his entire range on the river, value check is fine. But I would mainly just be sure to remember the value in provoking spazouts, though this hand is kind of weak for doing that I guess.

this is exactly why I'm not very crazy about getting c/red here, I can't fold it vs this guy but I would hate to pay 2 more bets to get shown an awesomely played A6 or something like that

It only happens a certain % of the time and sometimes the board fubars out so bad that we can fold riv anyway. But I like getting raised on turns because I think it's a great spot to outplay weaker opponents. But seriously, many spzzy opponents have the tendency that they go super weak-tight w/ marginal made hands but spaz w/o showdown value or anything slightly strongish. So I don't think his turn raise which only happens some % of the time will be too terrifying.
