SB is 25/20

Pre Flop: Hero is BB with A 4
4 folds, SB raises, Hero 3-bets, SB calls

Flop: A Q 9 (2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets, SB raises, Hero calls

Turn: A (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls

River: 2 (2 players)
SB bets, Hero calls

Ok, how many streets I misplayed?

Rank these four lines best to worst:

1) 3-bet the flop
2) Raise the turn
3) Raise the river
4) Play like I did

I pick 4), especially early in a session. But almost all options are acceptable, imo.

4-2-1-3, imo. But it don't matter much, really.

I don't 3-bet this preflop. You don't have much equity and now you'll get much more credit on Ace hi boards (since you'll have top pair this is bad).

Given that you did 3-bet preflop, I'd rate the four lines like this:

4 > 3 >>> 2 >>>>>> 1

I rate line 4 the best because I just don't think you have enough equity against his calling range to raise for value. And when you get 3-bet you call and lose nearly everytime. Throw a little history of spewage (on his part or yours) in there and then you can raise the river for value.

The reason I rate 3 the higher than 2 is because it's a wtf? line. When someone takes this line vs. me it's usually the nuts or something completely ******ed and nothing in between (like A4). In any case, sb will be much less likely to 3-bet the river with a better Ace than he will the turn, so you save money by waiting.

The reason I rate 2 better than 1 is because 1 is kind of like yelling "I have top pair, stop bluffing". Obviously, he won't beleive you and will still call down with Qx or whatever (assuming he might actually play Qx this way sometimes?). But with line 1 you win less when he was semibluffing and misses; you also lose more when he's semibluffing and hits. I'm assuming you're not going to raise the turn when a scare card hits.

It's generally good to not 3bet your small Ax hands preflop here for reasons described in the post before mine.

The rest of the hand is kind of whatever. You're not folding, but you'll either feel like a genius or an idiot depending on what you do and what your opponent has. I wouldn't cap the flop, but once you catch another ace on the turn your hand rates pretty well. You can raise and call a 3bet on either the turn or the river. It's just too bad the river doesn't really give you any additional chopping equity.

3betting pf is FINE, esp early in a session, but you should consider just calling after you develop some history

I would raise a blank turn against practically anyone. C'mon we got TOP ****ing PAIR in BVB ... Why u guys want to play WAWB?

An offsuit Ace turn is an easy no-brainer-raise-snap-call-down-a-3-bet.
